β a tv show based portrayal of the
character Luke Ellis from
Stephen King βs The Institute.
β
luke scrunched his face in disgust at the mention of a βpapaβ .
β the monster was human before. huh Iβm guessing one of their βexperimentsβ went rogue ?β
βalso whatβs Hawkins?β
Or that his breathing started to pick up.
βI canβt -β
why was it hard to breathe? did he want to breathe? what if he stopped?
no he needed to help his friends. he needed to stop sigsby and stackhouse. he needed-
βd-dadβ
that he believed everything.
and in the little time they had together, made the boy feel safe. something he hadnβt felt in a while.
luke even compared him a bit to his own now deceased father.
mind racing he didnβt realize that he was clutching his chest.
repeating every agonizing moment. playing out all the sharp hits, stinging words, and brutal tests.
. . . but tim never did those things.
No, tim took him in and tried to get him help. gave luke his jacket and a hug that he desperately needed. he cleaned him up and told him -
brushing the hand off his shoulder, he cautiously took a step back. everything felt like it was too much.
he wanted to trust him so bad, needed it even. but his head kept going to every single adult that hurt or took advantage of him.
Luke stared at tim, searching.
using what little strength he had left, he had to see if the man in front of him truly meant what he said.
. . . honestly if the man did, would luke truly believe him ?
β youβre not lying . β
he let out a shaky breath.
I promise you that, Luke. I will do everything in my power to help you." His eyes would lock with the kids. "But you need to trust me. Trust that I want to help you. That I'm not going to hurt you like her, or Stackhouse, or any of those other monsters."
β guess these monsters are the same when it comes to manipulating kids β
giving a sympathetic smile he shrugged
β I donβt think I could be as strong as you . that monster of yours . . .β
a chill went down his spine.
β i- is he gone ? β
revealing the emotion he was holding back.
finally he looked tim in the eyes.
β and I wonβt go back β
eyes stinging with tears he laughed bitterly.
β why did I think you would be different β -
β I will run β
he continued to look straight ahead refusing to look at the adult next to him.
β I donβt care if she is telling the truth.
what sheβs doing is insane and I need to save my friends. β his voice cracking .
β yeah no shit β he replied. trying to keep his voice from showing the oncoming panic he was trying to hide .
chest tight, he grabbed at his arm hard to try and ground himself.
he refused, terrified honestly , to see what tim was thinking. -
β to save the world . . . apparently β
he frowned .
β thatβs . . . terrifying Iβm uh Iβm sorry that happened to you . β
he looked down.
βI kinda understand. It sucks.β
