@noelplum I don't agree with the VAT charge but it'll cost the government less than the tax raises.
It'll raise, net, about £1.5bn a year.
Which is a rounding error for the total gov. budget, which is why it's not necessary.
@JamesGlasse@anaboultertv@BBCPolitics Don't agree with the VAT charge as there are bigger fish to fry & negatives impact kids, it'll raise more tax than it'll cost in kids moving sector.
But, I would scrap it. Raise tax elsewhere and fund state schools properly.
@JamesGlasse@anaboultertv@BBCPolitics Because a State school operates on funding of £8.5kpa per student and a private school about £25kpa per student (some less, some more)
@Spannerzste@anaboultertv@BBCPolitics Apart from UC, most benefits are based on your NI record & count as taxable income. The few that don't, legacy benefits e.g. Income Based ESA, are being transferred to Universal Credit.
Universal Credit isn't taxed because of the Taper which reduces UC for each £ of income by 55p
@Jeremy_Hunt Hunt "*I'm alright Jack..."
Maybe the Tory party shouldn't have given tax cuts out that benefited the better off in society rather than reduce the deficit.
The tax cuts didn't stimulate the economy but they did increase the debt.
Thatcher's debt.
Cameron's debt.
May's debt.

@oIIyjm Class size fell in Infants and Primary by 0.3 of a pupil. It rose in Secondary by 0.1 of a pupil. Recruitment has improved, but more to do, and retention is still shocking.
@LostinAylesbury@DanNeidle@afneil But we have historically high employment, historically low unemployment, and historically low levels of economic inactivity.
@markstretch But it's really shown the real issue, state funding. I've worked in State Ed. where we have had to cope with ever shrinking budgets in real terms
Eng state spend per pupil £8580pa
Mate works in a private school, pupil numbers rising (!) and fees are (day fees)...
£29000pa
@RITB_ ...I now have some understanding of why people find keeping a healthy weight so hard. So people shouldn't be judged for weight gain as it's one of the hardest things to combat. Walk a mile and that...
@RITB_ I use amitriptyline for pain and it drives the want to eat. It's such a powerful drive, and my weight has increased, fighting this craving causes more psychological distress than I can cope with so I just roll with it and do my best (which is my pain team's advice). But...
@Ernst_Blofeld@afneil You can visit Scotland and view them for yourself across the loch, or to avoid the cost of petrol use Vantor for up to date satellite images although I reckon the Russians still have working satellites.
