The Peninsula Center, a think tank established by Somali academics and intellectuals, paid a visit to the Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somalia Country Representative Office.

During the visit, the guests were provided with information about the educational activities carried out by our Foundation in Somalia and the work of our schools. Views were also exchanged on initiatives aimed at contributing to the development of education in Somalia, as well as potential areas of future cooperation between our institutions.

We extend our sincere thanks to the The Peninsula Center delegation for their kind visit and their interest in our educational activities.

One of the greatest strengths of Türkiye–Somalia relations is the human bridges that have developed between our two countries over the years. We have always emphasized how valuable Somali graduates who studied in Türkiye are to this relationship. It is equally meaningful to see the other side of this connection gradually growing stronger: Turkish citizens studying in Somalia and graduating from Somali universities.

In this regard, I am very pleased to see Dr. Selçuk Baş @selcukbas34 , Director of the Turkish Maarif Schools in Somalia, complete his PhD at Mogadishu University with his dissertation titled “Türkiye–Somalia Security Cooperation.” The fact that a Turkish academic has completed his doctorate at a Somali university on one of the most important areas connecting Türkiye and Somalia is, in itself, a reflection of how far relations between our two countries have come.

What makes this achievement even more special for me is his supervisor, Dr. Abdurahman Baadiyow @DrBaadiyow , a distinguished scholar from whom I have learned a great deal and whose book, Making Sense of Somali History, I greatly enjoyed reading. A Somali historian supervising the doctoral research of a Turkish academic in Mogadishu is perhaps one of the finest examples of the Türkiye–Somalia bridge we have been speaking about for years.

For years, we have proudly celebrated Somali graduates of Turkish universities. I hope that in the years ahead, we will increasingly be able to celebrate Turkish graduates of Somali universities as well. Because genuine and lasting ties between our two countries grow stronger when people learn, produce knowledge, and come to understand one another more deeply in each other’s countries.

🎓The graduation ceremony for our students who completed their secondary education at our KM4 campus was held with great dedication.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Mogadishu, Alper Aktaş, Ministers, Members of Parliament, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations in Somalia, teachers, parents, and distinguished guests from various segments of society.

Our students also made the event truly unforgettable by presenting wonderful performances reflecting Somali culture and traditions.
