One lesson that we Christians have not learned in the last +2,000 years is that Jesus had no political control over the Roman Empire and he still changed the world.
We keep trying to change the world the way the Roman Empire did instead of the way Jesus did.
@Dennis23065873 @shewlf5 @ask_aubry But people don't see that it's better to have a cup of plain water, than to regularly be offered a cup of piss but occasionally be offered a sip of sugared fizzy drink.
Ooh, museum!
I am bad with museums. That is, I want to read all the little cards, the big wall explanations, and to study the artefacts with my nose effectively up against the glass.
So this sounds like at once my idea of A Fascinating Day and Get Me Out Before I Get Too Deep
@SheilaEYoung1 I guess I don't think like most of your audience.
...I'd load up with food and medication and take it to places where there are embargos and barriers. *shrugs*
@DuadeBorg@JJKALE2 It's on freaking *everywhere*.
I hate the background jabber of TV. At least radio they change the song every few minutes (even if they play the same songs multiple times in the course of a week).
@wieling_nathan @Brcremer Sounds like plain old "sinful human nature". We seek power - over fellow humans, over the natural world, over God - without recognising that while we're the reflection/image of God and so carry some of Their characteristics of power over, we aren't "in very nature God".
@brmorris Isn't a narcissist focused on themselves and their wants/desires/pleasures/satisfactions?
How, then, can they glorify God?
Every biblical example of glorifying God is not through the power and pomp of earthly/human glory, but in service to others (humbling self).
@DaveMilbo Gardening. Making human connection with people, connection that isn't focused around the state of the world. Cooking.
Basically: "making" rather than "unmaking" which is what the news of the world seems to be doing everywhere.
@StormCaywood I sat and read the bible during sermons, too. Mostly because I was bored. And once you got past the geneologies into the post-Davidic kingdom, hoo boy, was there STUFF going on!
o.O
@bcmerchant "That is to say, it turns out that the core competency of smiling and promising people things that you can't actually deliver is highly transferable."
*CACKLING*
@JarranSainsbury I mean, this is the same root of the "women can't run marathons" and "I could score a point against Serena Williams" and "I could overpower any woman" dialog all over the intarwebs.
Many men seem terrified of merely being equal to a woman, never mind inferior.
@marianneneal72 @PastorBenMarsh @Cephas535 Great Moogy Googly, they went with the MOVIE VERSION? Like, not even a "proper translation" version?
I cannot even.
1/ Imagine a crowd of people picnicking and grilling on the side of a beautiful lake. Bob Seger tickles the ears as people grill steaks and play frisbee. Now, imagine that the shore on the other side of the lake is on fire.
