I was talking to a prolific attorney here on X about how billable hours are fake.
He thought it was interesting and posted about it.
It got traction fast and he had to delete it.
I have no reason to hold back on this topic, so here it goes:
Billable hours are 100% fake. Nobody actually tracks their time.
When it’s time to bill, attorneys look back at how long it’s been since they last billed, determine how many hours need to be billed to meet quota, and arbitrarily allocate hours based on what they believe will result in the least amount of pushback possible.
Everybody knows this is true, whether they want to admit it or not.
You can get mad at me for stating the truth, but I once worked in Big 4 accounting and saw first hand that nobody actually tracks their hours.
Hourly billing is a lie. Project based pricing is the future.
