Holocaust Survivor Day is a reminder that the stories of survivors are nothing short of miracles. Today, I had the privilege of speaking to a group of them, thanks to @UJAfedNY and @SelfhelpNY.
At a time of rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial, supporting survivors and keeping their stories alive has never been more important. As the daughter and granddaughter of survivors, that work will always be deeply personal to me.
Today, on #HolocaustSurvivorDay, we honor the extraordinary strength and resilience of Holocaust survivors.
Alongside our partner, @SelfhelpNY, survivors came together for an afternoon of music, conversation, and community.
We were honored to welcome @NYCCouncil Speaker @SpeakerMenin and Councilmember @vmmaloney as we celebrated survivors and reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring they are never forgotten, never alone, and always supported with the care and compassion they deserve.
Yesterday, on Holocaust Survivor Day, I joined @speakermenin, @UJAfedNY, and @SelfhelpNY to honor an extraordinary group of Holocaust survivors.
At a time of rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial, preserving these stories and supporting survivors is more important than ever. We must never forget, and we must never stop speaking out against hate.
At 100 years old, Leah Goldberg continues to share her story of surviving the Holocaust, reminding us why we must preserve the history of those who endured this evil.
Today, ahead of Yom HaShoah, we are sharing her story and pausing to honor the lives of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.
It was a blessing to spend time with Leah in her home in Valley Stream and hear her harrowing experiences.
At a time of rising antisemitism and fading knowledge of the Holocaust, it is vital that Congress pass the HEAL Act so every student knows stories like Leah’s and to ensure these horrors never happen to anyone again. @SelfhelpNY

It was great visiting @SelfhelpNY to celebrate their 90th anniversary and see firsthand what real care and long-term support for seniors can achieve.
It creates community, respect across generations, and the dignity that everyone deserves.
I was honored to join @SelfhelpNY to celebrate an incredible milestone: 90 years of helping older adults age with dignity and respect. I’ve seen the impact they have firsthand at their senior housing developments in Flushing. Here’s to 90 more years!
Great stopping by @SelfhelpNY’s Austin Street Senior Center to connect with local seniors, answer questions, and hear what’s on their minds!

It was an honor to join @SelfhelpNY for this meaningful gathering with Holocaust survivors. Hearing firsthand accounts is a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance, education, and ensuring these stories continue to be shared across generations.
Thank you to Selfhelp for the extraordinary work they do supporting older New Yorkers through housing, home care, and community-based services, and for creating spaces like this that foster connection, dignity, and memory.
The Rosenthal OAC is one of the busiest in my district. The staff there do an amazing job, but they couldn’t offer so many great programs and services without the help of their dedicated volunteers. This week, I joined @SelfhelpNY to recognize them for their hard work.
As @SelfhelpNY’s Katie Foley explains to @NY1, a $2M #nybudget investment in affordable senior housing Resident Assistants would help older adults avoid unnecessary hospitalizations, support aging in place & long-term stability, & reduce Medicaid spending. https://t.co/dQzhRTHo33
Passover came a bit early at our recent monthly Coffeehouse for Holocaust survivors. 💙
Together with our partner, @SelfhelpNY, we welcomed survivors for a meaningful seder filled with noshing, singing, and celebrating as a community.
In celebration of the Jewish Holiday of #Purim, I was honored to join a group of Holocaust Survivors at a luncheon this week, sponsored by @SelfhelpNY. It is always a pleasure to engage with the older adults in my community.
Today, members of @SelfhelpNY NORC toured @NYHistory "New York Sari" Exhibition.
Grateful that NORC members got to learn more about the sari and the women behind them that shaped New York City, including my mother and Council Member @ShahanaFromBK!
Wednesday was a marathon day of advocacy for Resident Assistance in affordable senior housing for LeadingAge NY, @liveonny, @WSFSSH, & @SelfhelpNY! TY @LindaBRosenthal, @SenatorCCleare, & more for speaking with us about this key program to help older NYers age safely in place.
From home health aides who stayed overnight with clients to social workers conducting wellness checks, our partners — including @14StreetY's Project ORE,
@SelfhelpNY, Shames JCC, @JCCstatenisland, and @MarksJCH — are helping seniors safely weather the storm.
Thank you @SelfhelpNY for sponsoring the Age Strong 2026 Leadership Summit! Selfhelp Community Services is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1936, offering home care and affordable housing in NYC and Long Island.
