Sorry to disappoint, but this is not a knee-jerk reaction. In my 3 years as Providence City Clerk, we never instructed someone who sought this type of record to file a formal APRA request, nor did we even consider such behavior. This is a deliberate abuse of the public's trust.

A total waste of time. This is the knee-jerk reaction we are seeing all the time, now. Public records are just that, and we (public and press) should not have to enter into what is essentially a form of litigation to get them.

Finally, this is another great example of how misbehavior hides behind the false belief that Providence City Council appointees are not independent. The City Clerk has full command and control of these records. They never need permission from another body to release them.

@kathyprojo Or even better, “Please provide copies of any emails from the City Clerk (or any of their staff) attaching Trade Name records during 2023.” It might provide evidence that your request was singled out for some mysterious reason.

13/14 Council Appointees do serve the Council in many positive ways. But they aren't meant to be direct reports to the Council President as demanded by John Igliozzi today. Unfortunately, those illegal demands aren't publicly challenged by current Council Members who support him.
