Today, a a civil jury ruled that the MIT faculty member Kristin Knouse was guilty of defaming David Sabatini, who was awarded $6M plus interest (the case lasted 5 years).
In the current institutional landscape, a male professor facing a parallel civil defamation judgment for fabricating a crime against a female colleague would face swift termination.
MIT, like most universities, has clauses in its faculty bylaws allowing for the termination of tenured or tenure-track professors for:
- Gross misconduct
- Dishonesty
- Conduct unbecoming a faculty member
Now that a jury has ruled that an MIT professor fabricated allegations of a violent crime (rape) to destroy a colleague's livelihood, MIT's administration faces a massive dilemma. Retaining a professor who a court legally determined to be a malicious defamer could create a hostile work environment or damage the university's institutional integrity.
Will Asst Prof Kristin Knouse be terminated in accordance with institutional policy and the zero tolerance standard that was applied earlier to Sabatini?
Will the Board investigate the role in this matter of Ruth Lehmann, the then and current President and Director of the Whitehead?
Lucy, an incredible 15-year-old blind and neurodivergent pianist from Yorkshire, performed Bach’s beautiful “Prelude in C” alongside her teacher, Daniel, before an audience of 6,000 at the Royal Albert Hall.
Bach himself might have shed tears if he had lived to hear her perform this piece. Tears of amazement. Tears for a young girl who lives with blindness yet has been blessed with a soul that expresses such beauty through her music.
Today I smiled for real for the first time in more than 5 years. Thank you to the jury, judge, court officer and clerk. And of course to my rockstar legal team. I truly wish the best for everyone involved.
If you think Democrats care about lowering the price of gas, just remember that on Day One of the Biden admin, two of the first things they did were cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and halt all new oil and gas leases.
@Stevenjacobs@JoshuaBarzon No. Montana/Idaho/Wyoming is a desolate wilderness swamp-land of wind and snow filled w/ disease ridden tics and mosquitoes, while populated by dubious well-armed rednecks. Glacier and Yellowstone NP are full of obnoxious squat-shitting foreign tourists.
On September 23, 2022 an Oakland teacher called Jeremy Taylor was celebrating his 46th birthday. Across the country, in Pennsylvania, a troubled Jane Doe he’d taught nearly two decades prior was texting her friend, saying he’d sexually abused her when she was a student. Then, the next day, she reached out on Facebook to wish him a belated Happy Birthday.
Jane Does friend told the police about the accusation. Within a few months, Taylor would lose his job and nearly lose his freedom. A private investigator hired by the school who blogs about the “global MeToo movement” even accused him of grooming two other students, even though neither had said anything untoward happened between themselves and Taylor.
The criminal case fell apart during discovery, which produced a trove of exculpatory evidence that suggested the allegation was completely fabricated, by a woman in the midst of an apparent mental health crisis. But Taylor’s life was ruined anyway. He hasn’t worked since, and has spent more than 1.2 million dollars in legal bills trying to clear his name.
Now, even Jane Doe’s one time friend who reported to the police tells me she believes Taylor is innocent.

@BettyMcCollum04 McCollum should worry about Somalian gang gun violence in Minnesota.
Dem reps McCollum and Morrison have encouraged and allowed Somalian gang violence/scams/fraud to go unchecked for years, where now it routinely spills into schools.
@GabbyGiffords@CaptMarkKelly Thank God for the armed bystander who intervened, contrary to your organization's wishes.

At the Hopewell Mound Group, one obsidian point measured more than 17 inches long. Far beyond an ordinary hunting point.
Chemical analysis traces the material back west. The people, their route, and what passed between them are harder to recover.
We have the stone. Imagine having the account of that trip.
Anti Drone Shotgun Limitations
Even with Tungsten pellets, the penetration at 60yd is comparable to a kids BB gun at 550fps, and at 100yds it's well below BB gun performance.
Given the durable plastic and now carbon fiber of drones, and the need to either physically break them or penetrate their batteries or circuit boards, it's unlikely this drone ammo would be able to stop a drone unless it got lucky and broke off a propeller.
It's likely the 5.56 driven 4 BB rounds fired at full auto are a better choice, as their larger projectiles + much higher velocity (~3,000fps vs ~1,200fps) will result in higher chances of disabling the drone.
Another alternative that may be worth looking into is Fllechette ammo for 12g, which tends to have much higher penetration and velocity retention. Though historically these have struggled to pattern well.
