Most people in general are massively uniformed about STIs. So let's talk about the industry, sex and HSV-2 real quick.

Industry standard tests DO NOT test for HSV1 or 2.
HSV1 and 2 are essentially the same, but one tends to be oral and one tends to be genital.
You can have either one genitally, orally or anally. Around 60-80% of the population has HSV1 - even people who've never been sexually active- there is no real difference between them except where they TEND to occur (https://t.co/d7vV3ugozl)
You can get HSV1 or 2 from kissing, oral sex ect, and again have them on the mouth or genitals, even if you have NEVER seen a sore or had an outbreak. In fact, most people NEVER experience outbreaks (https://t.co/spzvCgBjKZ)

It is very difficult to accurately test for HSV1 and 2. They frequently produce both false negatives and positives in blood tests, known as serological testing. (https://t.co/SBlGLBBUaM)
The exception to this is of course testing an outbreak site, which can be much more accurately tested, but again remember most people never experience this. (https://t.co/K4rh1NN9ly)

Because of inaccuracies, latency times, and also because it's uncommon to include them in both industry and standard testing, AND the fact that someone can have it with absolutely no symptoms, it is just about impossible to say one person "gave" HSV1 or 2 to someone in the industry. There is a great chance that *you* have at least one form and don't know it.

Transmitting HSV is actually not a high likelihood if you're not having an active infection. It's about a 3-10% chance. Those chances go below 0.5% if using barriers and even lower when combined with medication. Transmission varies by the kind of sex you have

Anyway if you have physical contact of any kind with any person you can get an STI, period. It's good to use barriers with new people and not have sex with anyone who has any kind of open wound.
Also, people genuinely need to read *in depth* about STI risks and their health and the needs of your specific population.
