The kids who weren't that great at academics & the ones the teachers labeled as 'මගුල් විසේ' are the ones who are the most successful now. Either by marrying rich or businesses & such and us who studied hard and went to uni are now stuck in 9 to 5s with depressing lives. Alas.
Sri Lankans have a weird moral-high ground towards fast food. Most think that Maggi & Bing Chun will give you a one-way ticket to Maharagama “අම්මෝ MSG කෙමිකල්ස්”. Sorry to sound like an imperialist, but your daily grind + සම්බෝලේ & දාගැබවගේ බත්එක isn’t as healthy as you think 😌
A major narcotics haul worth more than Rs. 1.1 billion has been seized at Bandaranaike International Airport, with 22 Buddhist monks taken into custody, according to local media reports.
The arrests were made during a raid carried out on Saturday night by officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau following intelligence information.
Authorities said more than 110 kilograms of suspected Kush and Hashish were discovered hidden inside false-bottom suitcases packed with school supplies and assorted sweets.
Reports said each monk was allegedly carrying over five kilograms of narcotics in luggage.
Investigators also found that the group had travelled to Bangkok on April 22 using airline tickets allegedly arranged by a sponsor. Mobile phone evidence reportedly showed photos and videos of the suspects in civilian clothing while overseas.
The seizure is being described as the largest drug bust in the history of Bandaranaike International Airport and the first reported case involving monks being arrested there with a large narcotics consignment.
The suspects, said to be young monks from different parts of the country and pursuing higher education at various institutions, are due to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings. (Newswire)
In Sri Lanka, you can get properties for as low as ₹10–20k per night just imagine trying to find something similar in Goa at that price! A friend of mine visited Sri Lanka last week and said it’s far more beautiful and much cleaner than Goa.
At those prices, the kind of properties you get there are incredible. It really feels like Sri Lanka has become the more premium and classy destination now, with a much better crowd as well.
He wrapped up his entire 5-day trip in around ₹70k, which honestly sounds like great value for the experience! 👌🏻
Today morning at Koswatta junction, I saw a low-floor bus passing by. Since many people had shared both good and bad opinions about it, I installed the app and checked it out…
First thing is, even though they market this as “Metro Bus,” the app is actually called LMT GO. If you search things like “Metro Bus app Sri Lanka,” it’s hard to find unless you type the exact name. Also, it doesn’t seem to be marketed much yet. I only found the correct app name through someone else’s post. So they definitely need to promote the app more and make it familiar to people 😊
You can link your bank account, top up an e-wallet, and pay by scanning a QR code through the app. That’s a really good feature 😍
The best thing is, you can plan your journey in advance by checking bus schedules and also track buses live, so you can travel without wasting time 🙏
A common complaint I saw was that the bus doesn’t go directly from Borella to Maradana, but instead takes a longer route via Town Hall and Eye Hospital…
In my opinion, since this is the first phase and they are prioritizing accessibility for disabled passengers, they have designed the route to cover places like the National Hospital and Eye Hospital. So I don’t see that as a problem.
Another complaint was that you can’t get on or off wherever you want. But that’s exactly what “limited stops” means 😂 This bus is not meant to stop at every junction or traffic light. It only stops at designated main bus stops.
Some people also complained that the bus doesn’t wait for passengers and leaves even if there are only a few people… But honestly, isn’t that how a quality bus service should work? Instead of stopping everywhere and getting overcrowded, now when people see a bus that isn’t packed, it feels strange 😂
This should run as a pilot project for about a year without worrying too much about profit or loss, until people get used to it. Right now, buses run roughly every hour. In the future, they should add more buses so that if you miss one, the next comes within about 5 minutes.
If Sri Lanka wants to reduce traffic, people need to shift from private vehicles to buses. To make someone who comfortably travels in their own AC car switch to a bus, two things must happen:
The journey should be comfortable without sweating and discomfort.
The travel time should be reasonable, without long delays and constant stopping.
Right now, this Metro Bus service is achieving both of these.
We just need to keep supporting it until people get used to it ♥️

Visa fees should be after visas have been approved, or at least refund the payment upon rejection.
It's only right. If you don't want someone in your country, DON'T TAKE THEIR MONEY.
Stanford paid 35,000 people to quit Facebook and Instagram for 6 weeks
Depression dropped. Anxiety dropped. Happiness went up. Women under 25 on Instagram saw the biggest gains
That was 6 weeks. I'm going a full year.
Sri Lanka tried this in 2021.
The results:
- domestic rice production fell 20% in the first 6 months
- 500,000 people were pushed back into poverty
- rice prices surged 50%
- tea production drop alone caused $425 million in economic losses
