One of Koo Bon-young’s most remarkable achievements at FNC was discovering Rowoon. Koo personally discovered Rowoon when he was a third-year student at Hwimun Middle School.
At the time, Rowoon had already received five or six business cards from different agencies at a school festival, showing how much attention he was attracting in the industry.
During an FNC audition, Koo noticed a tall boy who stood out among numerous applicants. He immediately called him into his office and began a meeting with his mother.
Rowoon had never formally trained in singing or dancing, but
Koo confidently told his mother:
“It doesn’t matter if he can’t sing or dance yet. I can train him. Please trust me and sign with FNC.”
That conviction led to the contract.
Later, during his trainee days, Rowoon even gave Koo a heartfelt handwritten letter saying:
“Thanks to you, Director, I was able to get through my difficult teenage years.”
Koo recalled warmly:
“Even after I left the company, he never forgot to message me on Teachers’ Day. I recently heard he enlisted in the military. I thought, ‘He’ll do well wherever he goes.’ His parents are wonderful people as well.”
