Sequoia NF & Giant Sequoia National Monument, named for the world’s largest trees, celebrates the greatest concentration of giant sequoia groves in the world.
Coming up on the East side 9mile road (J-41) to Sherman Pass is open to the Blackrock intersection. Areas North to Blackrock trailhead & OHV trails are open, Monache trail is open, & Troy and Fish Creek campgrounds are open. The road continuing West is closed at the intersection.
Sections of the Sherman Pass Rd (22S05) have opened, but it is not fully passable. West side M99 to Sherman Pass (22S05) to Cherry Hill Rd (22S12) has opened to Horse Meadow campground. Big Meadow and beyond is closed. The Sherman Pass Rd continuing East is closed.

Here you can see the Extreme Fire behavior on the #BorelFire from Friday where it ate thru 30,000 acres in just a few short hours. @RichIMET and @Weather_West can probably better explain the rotation of the column seen in this video. Current Situation: The Borel Fire stands at 59,288 acres and is now 91% contained. There was minimal fire activity overnight as firefighters on the ground strengthened containment lines around the fire in
the most challenging portions of the perimeter. Crews continued to work on suppression repair to help stabilize and repair impacts from fire suppression activities. This is the last day that California Interagency Incident Management Team 11 is managing the Borel Fire. Tonight

Current Situation: The Borel Fire remains at 59,288 acres with 84% containment. The decrease in acreage was determined after an AR flight over the fire. An “AR flight” in the context of wildfire refers to aerial reconnaissance which
is equipped with infrared cameras. The AR flight was able to provide accurate information on the size and shape of the fire, in addition it can detect hotspots and provide data on the fire’s intensity. For more information on the Borel Fire evacuations, visit:
