TEN THINGS ABOUT HOW TO FORMAT A SCRIPT. Based on questions I get after screenwriter twitter has a debate about em-dashes or whatever. (Which is charming. That’s not a criticism.)
Here is what works for me and works for scripts I read when I am hiring.
nobody will remember:
- your salary
- how “busy you were”
- how many hours you worked
people will remember
- when you called something a bottle episode that wasn’t one
One stereotype about writers that is absolutely true: after sending you a draft, every single one of them will send three follow-up emails with updated versions that supposedly contain fewer typos.
One fun thing was -- they gave Death's ride a great vanity plate. If I recall (it's been EIGHTY-FOUR YEARS! Forgive me!) it said BUH-BYE. We all cracked up in post but were like... we ought to keep this scary and not let the audience off the hook so fast. So we cut the shot.
@staceycrussell Someone will fill in her name for us -- it's been a couple years! -- but this version was actually someone over at the CW. I was told she sang it into her iphone as a temp, but her voice was so good everyone perished on the spot and declared it The Version.
