I have moved about in our costal areas and I have witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by illegal mining, or “galamsey,” on our environment and water bodies. What I saw deeply saddened me. Our rivers and lands, once sources of life and sustenance, are now polluted beyond recognition. I returned home with a heavy heart, seeking answers in prayer, and was led to establish the Serene Future Foundation (@serenefutureorg) a year ago. Our mission is clear: to bring clean water, sustainability, and better living conditions to the mothers and families in these communities.

One of our earliest projects focused on drilling boreholes to provide safe drinking water for these affected communities. However, after consultations with engineers, I was faced with a grim reality: the very water we seek to provide may already be contaminated by the harmful effects of galamsey activities. The consequences of this illegal mining are seeping deeper than we can dig, affecting even the underground water sources that should be safe.

We must collectively fight for our country.

Take your political parties and the pennies they give you to buy your loyalty. You will experience real pain and regret when you have to buy a bottle of water for outrageous prices, when you don't have clean flowing water in your taps, and when you get diagnosed with food poisoning etc, then you will realize the pennies they gave you can't even buy you basic healthcare. They will fly themselves and their kids abroad for better healthcare while you live in anguish at the collapsing Korle bu.
