What we are describe as "lower class" in New Jersey is often a reflection of a high-volume, high-energy, and intensely direct verbal style.
The Style: Jersey and New York trash-talk is performative and aggressive. It relies heavily on absolute volume, hand gestures, physical proximity, and immediate, blunt insults.
Why it clashes: If you prefer a more psychological or witty takedown, Jersey-style chirping can feel crude or uninspired because it favors raw dominance and immediate shock value over surgical precision.

3. The South: The Polite Evisceration
Southern trash-talk is an art form built on smothering you in hospitality while quietly dismantling your self-esteem.

4. The Midwest: The Disappointed Sarcasm
Midwestern chirping is characterized by a slow-burning, understated passive-aggression that feels like being scolded by a neighbor.
The Style: It rarely features raised voices or overt hostility. Instead, it relies on extreme, deadpan sarcasm and polite observations designed to make you feel deeply uncomfortable.
The Execution: It’s all about the subtle dig. A Midwesterner will look at a massive mistake you made and simply say, "Well, that's one way to do it," or offer a lethal "Oof, tough break." It is a style designed to make you stew in your own embarrassment while they maintain a completely pleasant, unbothered exterior.

5. The West Coast: The Detached Dismissal
West Coast trash-talk thrives on absolute apathy, cool condescension, and making you feel utterly irrelevant.
The Style: It is completely low-energy and detached. Instead of engaging in a heated back-and-forth, West Coast chirping focuses on acting like the other person is a massive inconvenience or entirely beneath notice.The

Ultimately, trash-talk quality is in the eye of the beholder. My preference for Boston-style chirping makes sense given my roots—it values the quick-witted, miserable grin over New Jersey’s raw, loud-and-proud confrontation.

You know I'm not involved with these things, at least in intel, any longer but military generals and economists have the same reputation for wide variation in opinion and each of them hold to deep conflicting conviction, despite the vast majority of them being wrong. Neither economic or military scope of knowledge is meaningfully generalizable sufficiently to apply to individual cases, nor has either maintained the status of a science - especially during this rate of innovation.

Here is the thing. Oil is settling to $90 a barrel. We are starving russia and iran. And we have the strategic capability to starve china. Russia cannot hold out another year. Iran is collapsing internally and may be able to drag on slightly longer. The US strategy of 'maintain pressure longer than the enemy can hold out' is the polar opposite of chinese 'delay and deceive until we can win by accumulated strength" - and it's working. I know you have your political biases. I believe you are an honest and moral man. However, despite your tactical understanding your geostrategic understanding is consistently limited.

All of us differ in the time horizon of our understanding, and our experience bearing the responsibility of organizing different numbers and different resources at different scales. In this case you are accounting for what is in your sphere of vision, understanding, and personal value judgements.

In my lifetime, which is significant, and my knowledge which is equally so, no president in many decades, at least since Reagan (who was president during the last geostrategic shift) has approximated Trump's strategy, speed, and success, of reversing the failure of eery president back to 1992, to restructure the world order so that it is no longer dependent upon cannibalizing the US economy - particularly our working class economy - and no longer letting the world that benefitted from the pax americana, and the degree to which we've raised mankind out of ignorance superstition poverty, starvation, child mortality, disease, and the hazards of the vicissitudes of nature.

To put it in colloquial context you are speaking like a housewife that confuses the means of the economics of the home and family, with that of the nation, the small business person that does the same, the factory or office worker that does the same for politics as well, and the vast pseudo intellectual commentariat that lives under the delusion that the postwar model, US subsidy of world order, and the postwar economic advantage of the american economy, which led to our 'talking classes' (commentariat) holding silly self confirming opinions when for all intents and purposes that international order ended in 1992, and the domestic order ended in 2009.

You all need to adapt your world models, learn new skills, revise your narratives, and update your resumes.

We are currently waiting for the natural end of those cycles (markets), both internationally - in the hope that we will finish the Trumpian reforms before we have a third world war to end authoritarian states converting the entire world to nation states and markets - completing the transition from agrarianism, to industrialism, to post-industrialism; and we are waiting for the present generational shift, the consequences of feminization and collapse of education, the drop of aggregate US IQ below the 97 threshold, and the near certainty of civil conflict if not outright civil war.

Personally, I pray (at least metaphorically) for Trump to be followed by one more president that preserves this strategy of outlasting both the international and domestic crises, continuing the 'turnover of elites' those of us who study these things understand must occur. While such reforms usually take gravestones (generational turnover) gradually, both war and civil war are the fastest and most certain means of rotation of elites and legal and policy reform.

The problem is, gradual adaptation through gravestones produces less randomness in the consequence than do wars. I hope this helps you even if I suspect you are, like most, captured by your audience, and your biases are recursively confirmed by them.

The Anglo relationship to status is very unusual. Class is restraint, taste, generosity. Above all, class is a lack of concern about status. Only proles and new money show off.

Most cultures are the opposite. Status is loud. Status is gaudy. Status is about how much space you can take up, how much you can get away with imposing on others.

People from other cultures, especially economically successful people, who enter Anglo high-class environments have no idea how repulsive their way of expressing status is to their hosts. And of course, the Anglos are usually too polite to say anything about it. You simply won’t get invited to the next function. They’ll politely excuse themselves on a pretext and go talk to someone else.

I think a lot of people who go through this perceive it as racism. And it is, insofar as race intersects with behavior/culture. But it’s not in the sense that they wrote you off just based on appearance or ancestry. In general, the Anglo is ready and even eager to see other peoples behave correctly. They’re very excited when it happens.
