@Filmgadfly Overall it's the fall of the West. More granular, streaming has killed home video, which previously accounted for 50% of revenue. Also many writers went out to become showrunners. Yet also — MBAs in media behemoths care only for $ and lack the courage of real film producers.
@haylen630 Because all European empires have crumbled — except Russia. Brits and the French are shadows of their past. Russia was knocked down, but is getting up on its feet.
@HwoodScrptReadr I still kinda like him, they are such a sweet couple with Leslie Knope!
That said, for me the problem with the movie is that in the end the witch is not the enemy, and maybe not even real, and so most of the runtime was wasted on dealing with a strawman, or a strawwitch
@HwoodScrptReadr My take is that the doc just didn't act well. It looked in all the right spots. But it was not SCARED the way a human actor would be, which would also translate into me feeling scared. If an actor doesn't feel it — neither will the audience.
@Michael7ucci@Scholars_Stage Depends on the amount of damage. Russia has been delivering all sorts of payloads to Ukraine for years, yet here it is, still fighting. Overall might be a function of Ukr drone damage vs Russian on the ground achievements.
@witte_sergei I love you, Big S! I have a special place in my heart for you and your unique way of linking vulgar current events to field marshal Moltke. A man of both style and substance, I have learned more history from you then from my school teacher. Any chance you could keep it up?
@Filmgadfly He might’ve implied precisely that! Then again, he might have not.
In a sense, I think the “greatness” of a script is a trap in itself. Maybe it’s one of the reasons everything is so bloated now, clocking 120-150 minutes where 90 should have sufficed.
@minordissent Art feeds on us. On the only precious thing we have. On the time of our lives. So someone can create true art with AI. But nobody will be spared the price in blood.
@nosilverv Yes and no. True art is not a matter of taste and skill. It is a matter of paying in blood. And learning the craft, struggling with the resistance of the material — is what makes you pay more. It is that sacrifice that makes it worth anything.
@Joshtentacious@mtaibbi You mean like we have our one main culture and not a multi-culture smorgasbord? Or you mean the lack of diversity of viewpoints and artistic endeavors?
@hackerhavingfun@ArmchairW Well that's just any bureaucracy in history. So it can hardly be a predictor of success or failure. But a centralised power working consistently on achieving it's goals is. As well as the deepest, most complex military science school. My bet is that Russians will prevail.
@RWApodcast I love the McD cult content as much as the next guy, but come on, we still love it in Russia too. Call it whatever you want, a cheeseburger and fries is a treat. Poor kids love it, rich adults love it, it's just objectively great. Though I do miss Starlite diner on Mayakovskaya.
@Heavenly_Race_ I bet you anything Einstein or Tesla could truly enjoy a conversation with a janitor. You're just a whiny little damaged man, trying to hide behind some number.
@bneeditor I can attest to the mood being on the low. For one people are quite insulated from the war per se, only hearing about Ukr blows. Also Iran kicking US butt was a factor. Why don’t we? And the economy feels the hit of a stupid Central Bank policy. Alas, we shall still prevail.
