🚶♂️ New paper from the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Lab!
In 30 healthy adults, adding a contralateral shoe lift to a CAM walking boot restored many hip & knee kinematics/kinetics on the booted limb - but gait still wasn’t fully “normal.”

Outstanding Junior Award: Ethan Le
Outstanding Pi Tau Sigma Honor Society Student: Praveen Magesh
Proud of your hard work!
Congratulations to Sergio on successfully defending his PhD dissertation: ‘The Role of Obesity in Biomechanical and Physiological Stress leading to Injuries in Manual Workers’
For 4 years, Sergio has been a researcher in the lab performing research in full-body biomechanics.
New publication! 🏋
EMG analysis showed that using lifting straps reduced forearm activation, easing grip demand, and enhanced vastus lateralis activation, suggesting a greater training stimulus for the legs.
Congrats Sergio, Mallory, and team!

We had a great time at the Escape Game!
Our lab members did an amazing job solving problems and puzzles to save the spaceship from being destroyed by an asteroid! 🚀 ☄️
Excellent opportunity for team bonding.
New publication!
This article explored non-contact motions that lead to an ACL injury in soccer. We monitored joint angles, exploring the differences in gender, leg dominance, and player position. Congrats @PanchoBeron1@sergioan_lemus

We had a great time in our lab activity doing rock climbing 🧗
Excellent opportunity to show that our skills are not just in the lab. Thank you to all lab member for participating.
@umiamiengineer
Our lab group participated in the 6th Annual Sports Medicine Institute Research Day.
Gabi and Raul presented their research in tissue biomechanics. Sergio discussed his findings in occupational biomechanics.
Thank you Dr. Thomas Best for hosting this event!
