New Hampshire Democrats scored big on Tuesday: Hal Rafter’s 12-point win in a special election left the GOP with just a one-seat advantage in the 400-member House. Another special election in November is now poised to leave the two parties tied for control of the chamber.

... POLITICO reports that it’s the left that is trying to rein in ‘direct democracy,’ after the business community became adept at using ballot questions to bottle up or roll back laws such as ones limiting oil wells or regulating wages for fast-food workers. 2/2

PA provides a second example, where the state’s overall GOP lean relative to the national popular vote has shifted in recent years, as the Dems made gains in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Still though, the state is likely to get ample attention from both sides in 2024. (4/4)

However for the incumbent leaders that did choose to return the elections went well, with most top leaders securing re-election to their offices.

Meanwhile incumbent Republican Mike Dunleavy is expected to win re-election in Alaska’s ever idiosyncratic political environment. The only incumbent to fall by the wayside is the now-outgoing governor of Nevada, Steve Sisolak, who lost to Republican challenger Joe Lombardo.
