Hello. Not everyone with a Masters Degree or PHD wants to go into academia. Not all graduates want the rigorous demands of academic output - writing, publishing, peer review- often with very little pay. So a South African may very well have a PHD but its purpose is not working at a University. Also, many graduates do not want a full time tenure as lecturers.

Anyone who HAS a post graduate degree also knows that you don't have one lecturer for a course. I may teach IR, but my module may be SA Foreign Policy. 3 weeks later, another lecturer in the same course, comes to teach on China, or AI, the AU, Africa and Slavery. A post graduate degree is not about South Africa only.

Anyway, the Summer break is over. Wish me luck, as I, a foreigner, begin a new chapter as a part time member of faculty. I will be teaching a post graduate module on Narrative Power In The Emerging World Order to INTERNATIONAL post graduate students. Have a nice day snd a sharpened gaze on the world around you. 😊

In March 2023, I went to see President Ian Khama at his home in Johannesburg, and we discussed many things around his presidency. I raised your issue with him, and his perspective was very interesting.

He said to me:
“Hopewell, it is difficult to understand how someone can support ZANUPF, its atrocities, its failures, its mismanagement of the Zimbabwean economy, and all the killings it continues to carry out.
Then that person leaves that failed country, that reign of terror, abuse, mismanagement and everything that comes with it behind. They go to a country called Botswana, where they are enjoying freedoms that are being denied in the country they left, yet they continue to support the denial of those same freedoms to Zimbabweans by ZANUPF.

Such a person should ask themselves whether it is right to enjoy freedoms in Botswana while supporting a political party that denies those same freedoms to Zimbabwean citizens at home. And then they write about it regularly, supporting the oppression of their own people.”

He added;
“Why should such a person escape the dysfunctionality of Zimbabwe, a country that cannot even provide adequate employment opportunities, when he supports the very system responsible for that dysfunctionality? He escapes that madness by going to Botswana, where he gets a job and enjoys the freedoms and opportunities that Zimbabweans are denied.

We would rather have a victim of that system in Zimbabwe come to Botswana, if they have the necessary skills, and get a job than employ people who have supported and helped create a political menace for Zimbabweans, only to reward them by giving them jobs in Botswana.”

Zimbabwe is a very difficult place to live if you are just an ordinary citizen trying to get on with your life.

Yesterday, a young man got in touch with me seeking financial assistance to travel to Zimbabwe because he had lost his father. I helped him, and his bus left Johannesburg at 5 p.m. It travelled all the way to Zimbabwe and got to the border in the morning, where it was cleared. It then continued its journey into Zimbabwe.

When the bus got to Bubi, ZIMRA officials, who are Zimbabwe’s customs officials, sent it all the way back to the border for another search.

As I write this, that bus is back at the border. This young man left Johannesburg yesterday at 5 p.m., and it is now past 6 p.m. the following day. He had already done more than half of his journey from Johannesburg, only to be forced back.

I honestly do not understand why our government makes life so painful and difficult for ordinary people. It is cruel, painful, and heartbreaking.

This is one of the reasons many young Zimbabweans do not want to return home when they complete their studies. If you are not part of the political elite circle, life can be incredibly difficult. Even those who are trying to live by the book and simply live normal lives are subjected to unnecessary hardship.

It is heartbreaking. It is sad. The once respected Zimbabwe has become a mafia state.

I have sent a letter to @CyrilRamaphosa asking him to clarify his relationship with this corrupt crony capitalist who is a person of interest in South Africa.

My questions to Mr Ramaphosa.

1. What is the nature and context of your interaction with Mr Chivayo as depicted in the circulated footage?

2. When did this meeting take place, and was it an official engagement, a private
meeting, or a social encounter?

3. Are there any official records, declarations, or disclosures relating to this interaction?

4. How does this engagement align with prior public statements made by your office
regarding your knowledge or relationship with Mr Chivayo?

We have an immigration crisis in South Africa because of ZANU PF leadership in Zimbabwe and the FRELIMO leadership in Mozambique.

To deal with immigration challenges which cost South Africa billions in service delivery we must deal with the root causes. ZANU and FRELIMO.

We cannot in any way as South Africa associate with or assist Zanu PF to stay in power by illegitimate means. We cannot support term extensions and dictatorships.

It is time to cut all ties with ZANU PF and its dodgy businessmen.

Our immigration crisis is a result of the Zanu PF and Frelimo party. The corruption and violence in Zimbabwe and Mozambique have caused mass inflows into our nation which is already struggling with unemployment and poverty.
