Tony Clancy just sent me this image of a male Brown Hairstreak on a blackberry on his allotments along Summers Lane, nr Coppetts Wood/N Circular, N London - lots of plums, some blackthorn on Glebelands nearby

Common blue damselfly, I imagine.
Seems to have black markings across blue ante-humeral stripes, and extensive black marks on segment 2 and segment 3

Purple Emperors battling it out at Lippitts Hill, Essex, this afternoon - distant images by Nev Smith. In the 35'C heat, they mostly did just about nothing for 2 hours - 10% of normal activity.

Prompted by Laurence @hertsessexbirds , I visited West Essex Golf Course, Lippitts Hill, Essex early afternoon - not expecting a Purple Emperor yet, however a male soon appeared, but also went off, searching around the wider hilltop. None seen later at Buckhurst Hill.

I think Enfield fraudulenty used my plate grabbed from nearby that day. I think they pixelled out the original plate as shown. Bet this scam is regular. Beware plausible deniability, would like to know if a resident or visitor owns the car used in this fraud.

@jarpartridge 👍 Finally got 1 phrase of song pm today. Seen Sat & Monday, S bank of Regent's Canal between The Constitution & Royal College Street, but also in tall trees N side. Calls rarely & goes missing for an hour. A morning visit might get more song. Has something on bill base.

In addition to strong wing moult contrast, it has darker secondaries, rather wide dark trailing edge to underwing. I've seen just one of these locally. Thanks for posting.

Saw 4 brown hairstreaks in brief sunny spells this morning at Crayford Marshes / Thameside. Kent. Three on trees by Erith Yacht Club, and one near Wallhouse Rd/Ness Rd junction @BCKentBranch @zimmer_donna
