As the World Cup comes to an end, I still find it amazing that soccer players got to play on beautiful natural grass in NFL stadiums, only for those fields to be switched back to turf a few months later for the actual NFL season.
Protect the players! Makes no sense. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Was fun to hang with my longtime friend @LinacreMedia in his booth at #fifaworldcup a few weeks ago. Great story from one of us." The World Cup final PA announcer: โIโm in the candy aisle of lifeโ https://t.co/ru1QnYeR3W
You may not know the name, but if you're a fan of the Commanders, Wizards or New York City FC, you know the voice of public-address announcer Mark Fratto. On Sunday, he'll be the PA announcer for the World Cup final. Story at @TheAthletic (free to read):

"I won't pretend to be up here and defend Bryson. I'm not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it's performative. I think a lot of it's for attention."

I actually tend to agree with this. Looked to me like he was standing behind his ball to get an idea of what shot to hit. Maybe by rule it's a violation but I'm not convinced that was his intent. High grass means he has to high step to move around.
My real intrigue is over how well (or poorly) he handles this from a pr/crisis management perspective. His recent behavior on this front is not encouraging to say the least. If you're not going to treat the media well you're not going to get much benefit of the doubt on these matters, fair or not (it's not fair actually).
In my opinion, with the depth of field issues with TV cameras and no definitive camera angles of his swing path, there cannot be conclusive video evidence that Bryson improved his lie or swing path. In cases like this the benefit of doubt should go to the player. I don't like this decision.
Officials confirmed the source of the cyclospora outbreak: Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell. It hit thousands before anyone could name the food, because the teams that catch outbreaks fast were cut last year.
