Burnsville was left without clean drinking water for weeks after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Thanks to investments from @NCDEQ, the town is on track to providing its residents with clean, safe, and dependable drinking water for the long-term.

Western NC hasn’t taken a day off from recovery, and we have to match their urgency. Since Hurricane Helene, we have invested more than $1 billion in water infrastructure and resilience projects to help our mountain communities recover and prepare for future disasters.

For the 6th straight year, North Carolina ranks in the top 2 of @CNBC’s Top States for Business. In 2026, we’re the #2 state for business, the #1 state for economy, and the #3 state for workforce. 

We have a good thing going in North Carolina. Other states want what we have, and we’ve got to keep investing to build strong infrastructure, double down on our high quality of life, and make North Carolina more affordable to live, work, and raise a family. The budget I signed this week is a launch pad, not a landing place. Let’s keep pushing to lower people’s cost of living so we can build a safer, stronger, and healthier North Carolina.

As of today, North Carolina is the only state in the country without a budget.

The General Assembly needs to come back to Raleigh next week to fully fund Medicaid and then pass a budget that meaningfully invests in our people and our state.

Independence Day is a reminder that America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ America is owned by no one. It belongs to all citizens. And at this moment in history—when core democratic principles seem to be continuously under attack, when too many people around the world have become cynical and disengaged—now is precisely the time to ask ourselves tough questions about how we can build our democracies and make them work in meaningful and practical ways for ordinary people.

North Carolina families don’t need higher energy costs. An independent analysis concluded Senate Bill 266 could cost consumers $23B through 2050.

This bill would also force families to pay more so industry can pay less.

And it walks back North Carolina’s commitments to reduce carbon emissions – sending the wrong signal to businesses that want to be part of our growing clean energy economy.

For these reasons, I vetoed SB266.

The average child care worker makes $10.73 an hour in NC. That’s not enough to pay bills and support a family.

Low pay ➡️ staff shortage ➡️ not enough classroom spots for kids.

The new Task Force for Child Care and Early Education will identify solutions to recruit and retain child care workers.
