Mastodon is actual magic, but the good kind without blood sacrifice. It's everything you actually want out of social media.

Having unfollowed the "influencers", keeping only friends, Twitter's still catering to "impressions" (likes, retweets) I made previously. But it's getting worse as time goes. How is my timeline still filled then? What metric goes into filling it? Certain # of new items per hour?
I'm unfollowing by posts as they show up. Did you know theres a lot of ducking posts you dont see? I mean, these people have posting?
Too many layers to this gamified hot mess.
@eat_pizza@MDCKid I don't like the viral post "lottery" algorithm on Twitter. Thinking every post could go viral, might get noticed.
And in the mean time, you looked at some ads.
Knowing that makes the experience here sour. Obviously the timeline here is better, but it doesnt need to be here.
@MDCKid Choosing an instance doesnt affect much. I joined a friends so I'd know who to blame when it crashes. No good other reason.
I keep in mind; Twitter could implement the same open protocol as mastodon. It's basically a mastodon instance that refuses to play with others.
@TychoBrahe Social media is intentionally designed. Not emergent, but an artificial curated habitat that (hopefully) incidentally gave edge to narcissists.
It's a zoo where tigers are penned with prey, and it's exciting to watch.
We could chose a different zoo.
Over 1 million people have joined Mastodon since October 27. Between that and those who returned to their old accounts, the number of active users has risen to over 1.6 million today, which, for context, is over 3 times what it was just about two weeks ago!
@MainManMikhael@adamconover If Musk can keep twitter alive by some rabid fan base, more power to him. Maybe he'll give them twitter-coins to spend each month too for being a sub.
