Former XBOX management coddled game dev teams.

It was daycare for developers. There was basically no accountability to turn a profit. The bar was low: just break even, don't worry about profits, "try to win some awards." Game Pass subscribers numbers mattered more.

Jason Schrier reveals all this on his latest video.

His video confirms everything I've been talking about for years on Xbox. The unsustainability of the model, the folly of trying to be Netflix for games. The huge cost of the studio acquisition spree.

It should all go. This sort of softball game development is what created art games instead of gamer games. It's the same problem that plagues Hollywood.

They forgot that making a game for gamers was what it was all about.

They won't admit this. They will talk about a lack of demand, and changing attention spans and rising dev budgets. But all of this, it's just lies. Pretty lies designed to protect them from real introspection. If it were true, Asian, AA and Indie studios would not have taken their lunch money for the past 2 years. These studios are growing, profitable, launching IPO and hiring. Funny how these "market conditions" don't seem to affect them.

Instead we got endless contempt for gamers, DEI ridden games, and lectures about how we were not the audience anymore.

AAA can't admit what went wrong, and therefore has to go. There is no fixing things when you refuse to be honest about why things fell apart.

Sony to layoff half of Bungie.

The French journalist who called the Xbox layoff is now saying that Bungie will be halved due to poor performance of Marathon.

The studio is approx. 800 people, that would whittle the team size down to 400.

Women took over gaming from TOP to BOTTOM and look at the disaster and MILLIONS of dollars of losses it's caused. It's so bad that studios had to re-release 20 yr old games made by men to bring in profits.
