Not a late-night TV host. Partner running @StandardWonder, a Detroit ad agency (or something like that). Past: Journalist driving digital change at @wxyzdetroit
@rossjonesWXYZ@wxyzdetroit@mattfrieds Also, once, in the early 2000s, I was being courted for a job outside @wxyzdetroit & Steve somehow got wind of it as the station scrambled to keep me there. It was all VERY secret, but Steve knew EVERYTHING. Like he listened in through the GM’s door or read a stray doc on a desk.
@rossjonesWXYZ@wxyzdetroit@mattfrieds While @rossjonesWXYZ undoubtedly has the best Steve Wilson stories, I have some pretty memorable ones. He had a habit of guilting me into running extra video on the website by doing 3-way phone calls with his elderly mother out of state” who wanted to see more of her son’s video
Had a chance to chat about AI in advertising with @wxyzdetroit’s @sarahamichals & Mike Glover. We should all look at AI as a tool that frees us up to do things that could never be done before. To let us do more work we love & less of what drags us down. https://t.co/nAwD2hJyJO
@MaxWhiteWXYZ Congrats on the move higher up into the sky! Where else can you live in a building designed by one of the world’s greatest architects, walkable to pretty much everything, with park views, downtown views and a view across an international border? Enjoy, neighbor!
Oh no!! Fire in the building that houses Supino Pizza here in Eastern Market. Impressive @DetroitFire response. Hoping the best for our office neighbors.
Update: Smoke has cleared. Looks like the fire was in apartment above Supino. It is a truly impressive thing to see how quickly and professionally the Detroit Fire Department works.
The @tigers didn’t win this Opening Day, but — once again — the owners of Detroit’s surface parking lots sure did. Here are a few before & after shots of parking prices at lots along East Lafayette (Tuesday evening vs. Thursday morning). #openingday#OpeningDayDET
@BradGalli@wxyzdetroit Not gonna lie: I thought of Don when I saw some of your Spring Training reports. He was (rightfully) so proud of his habit of leaving the studio confines for stuff like that. Working with him — and being his friend — made us all better.
Don Shane was the real deal. A local TV legend. A true mensch. Thinking about time spent with him, there are so many moments that make me smile. So many stories that revealed his competitiveness and his caring nature. And so many times he helped me out when he didn’t have to.
Longtime Channel 7 sportscaster Don Shane has died at the age of 70, 7 Acton News has learned. Don spent 23 years at WXYZ and no one had more fun on the air or covering our local teams. https://t.co/JoPx1XZKFU
"These are not, like, the nine greatest experts on the internet." That's an accurate self-assessment from Justice Kagan that made me laugh earlier while listening to the Supreme Court's live oral arguments around this Section 230 case. It's a somewhat frustrating listen.
With the @Eagles in the Super Bowl, this Philly native was thrilled to go on the local news to talk about the game. Oh. Wait. I'm probably more qualified to just chat about the commercials.
You can watch the clip from @Local4News & @nickmonacelli here: https://t.co/9Tu6kyHq9P
Saw the coolest thing this morning: All of the lights at Comerica Park are being swapped out by a helicopter that’s hovering over the Detroit @tigers ballpark. This photo from my office window doesn’t do it justice. I drove by along Woodward & the lights are in the parking lot.
Huge congrats to my friend & former colleague, The Great Dave LewAllen (@tvnewzguy), who celebrated 35 years at @wxyzdetroit today… And also announced a well-earned retirement starting soon. (Oh, and he has some archival gems on YouTube when you need a throwback pic like this.)
Exactly 12 years ago, my old @wxyzdetroit crew & I brought together Detroiters we’d met on Twitter for in-person beers & free t-shirts. TV news anchors & reporters chatted w/people who consumed local news. Friendships were forged. Sources, too. It was magical. This ending is sad.
10 years ago tonight, I was bummed by the end of a disappointing @tigers World Series run that also meant Aretha wouldn’t sing to start Game 5. Now, this native Philadelphian hopes for a big @Phillies win & a @JustinVerlander performance tonight that matches his 2012 Game 1 bomb.
