BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Alonso leaves the Mets to make a loaded AL East even better.
@JacobsFieldRBW Showing that a cf who was a very good hitter but wasn't the best defender and the greatest defensive cf I've ever seen, possibly ever, have the same value really isn't the own they think it is.
@dontwatchsports We all tried telling yall that the 37th pick for him was absolutely high way robbery. Anything more than cash considerations would have been an overpay.
@moustachesteve@greggtmasterson I know that seems very nitpicky, but it is a very important difference as this phenomenon has a much greater impact on certain pitches (like a fastball or curve) than it does on others (like a slider), while a pure spin rate decrease would have a more uniform impact on movement.
@moustachesteve@greggtmasterson I'm pretty sure that air density has very negligible to no effect on spin rate itself. What it does impact is the strength of the Magnus effect, which is what causes the spin-induced movement of the ball. So the ball doesn't actually spin less at coors but it does move less.
