Exit velocity, bat speed, and all the data matter. At some point, you do need to hit certain physical thresholds to compete at the highest levels of baseball.
But once you get around players who are all talented, the separator usually isn’t another 2 mph of bat speed.
It’s mental toughness. Resilience. Confidence. The ability to handle failure. Having a consistent approach. Showing up every day. Competing when things aren’t going your way.
The numbers might get you noticed. Your mindset is what determines how far you go.
I’ve seen plenty of players with elite metrics fail, and plenty of players with average metrics maximize every ounce of their ability because of who they were between the ears.
Train the body. Don’t neglect the mind.
Jeff Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay zero federal income tax.
He cited a nurse in Queens making ~$75K and paying ~$12K in taxes saying “we shouldn’t be asking this nurse in Queens to send money to Washington.”
Statistically, more swings (more picks) is better than one single pick. It’s impossible to know how these draft picks are truly going to pan out.
On the flip side, Indy got a proven Center that’s going to be an important part of their scheme. The Pacers will contend with Zu in there next year. Draft picks are crapshoots (see: Jonathan Bender).
Sometimes you take a calculated gamble and it doesn’t work out. That’s life.
Kevin took a risk and knew that worst case scenario, the Pacers still got better with Zu in the mix. I’m pumped to see this Pacers group compete next year.
@Krisplashed Thanks Kristian. Lots of vitriol but we like this group. Plus we have 5 out of 6 picks. We studied hard the future of potential centers and found a good one in Zu.

Dana White explains why he hates men's mental health culture
"I hate this whole men's mental health stuff that they talk about. Unfortunately, when you're a man, you are the provider, you can't be that guy posting on social media, oh I had a bad day and I'm so sad"
"It's unattractive to other males, let alone women"
@SatlujAthabasca I think the added friction of accessing the largest market in the world (the US) and less venture capital funding has resulted in a stunted economy in BC and the rest of Canada writ large
Kanye West said this in 2022 on @lexfridman:
Lex: "What do you hope your legacy is?"
Ye: "To be forgotten. There's ego in memory. Who designed the sidewalk? Who designed the water fountain? Who designed the stop sign? Who designed the stop light? These things are so ubiquitous that the person that designed them is forgotten. If it's a good idea, it's a God idea."
