These findings suggest potential therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing regulatory T cells, and identify a target for antigen-specific T cells that may enable precision therapeutics in ALS.
I am excited to share that our new study on Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is out in Nature today. Awesome collaboration with Dave Sulzer at Columbia and several clinical groups; and a big thank to all blood donors. https://t.co/od4QPqmF5X
We identify the C9orf72 protein as a target for a T cell inflammatory autoimmune response with IL-5/ IL-10 releasing CD4+ T cells that might have an anti-inflammatory role. IL-10-mediated T cell responses were significantly higher in donors with a longer predicted survival time
The emphasis on communication is most important, and we all as Scientists have the crucial task to communicate scientific results to scientists in their disciplines, but also to non-scientists and the general population.
Honored to receive the 2025 Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement "for understanding basic mechanisms of antigen recognition and immunity, predicting immune activity, and developing interventions against cancer, infection, autoimmunity, and allergies. " https://t.co/5oIEfJtAuG
The Prize was instituted in 1950 to honor contributions to Science , with emphasis on communicating research to scientists in other disciplines. It is humbling to see that previous recipients involved four Nobel Prize winners, and Jane Goodall, Margaret Mead and Stephen Jay Gould
I am honored to have received the 2025 William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement "for understanding basic mechanisms of antigen recognition and immunity, predicting immune activity, and developing interventions against cancer, infection, autoimmunity, and allergies. "
Encouraging all qualified candidates to apply for the ISSNAF prizes. A wonderful opportunity to get recognition and network with your peers. If not directly eligible, please circulate to your peers.
Particularly significant to be awarded on the 2025 Italian Research day. I am proud to follow my passion for Research. Scientific research has a profound impact on technological breakthroughs, human health, economic growth and education, and should not be taken for granted.
I am honored and humbled to have been knighted by the Republic of Italy as Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica. Heartfelt thanks to the Italian Government, Italian Embassy, the Consul Raffaella Valentini, ISSNAF , my family, friends and colleagues. https://t.co/Q7aIYVciy7

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom, soon!
We found most previously identified CD4 and CD8 T cell epitopes are identical or highly conserved. Our experimental data shows a nearly complete preservation of pre-existing T cell responses in HPAI H5N1 recognition
