One thing I hope we address as a people is our language about childbirth and delivery.
I hear people say “is it normal delivery or CS operation?”.
This is wrong. And we need to stop.
The assumption is that vagina delivery is “normal” and CS operation is abnormal.
This is ignorant, uneducated and uninformed.
Vagina delivery is normal.
CS Operation is normal.
Neither ways of childbirth is abnormal.
The reason I am particularly taking this up is because there has been a lot of unfair stigmatisation of people who gave birth through CS operations which sometimes leads some women to refuse sound medical advice and insist on trying for a vagina birth even when it is not safe leading to many times the untimely death of both the mother and the baby.
I have seen many situations of this avoidable foolishness, mostly when I worked in Nigeria, when people have held on to very delusional and uninformed ideas that assume that vagina birth is superior to cs operation or assisted delivery.
What many people don’t know is that there is NO method of delivery that works for everyone.
For some, vagina birth is advised.
For others, operation is advised.
Neither group is superior to the other.
Both groups are incredibly strong people who have put their lives at risk simply to have their babies.
The delusional idea that you must have a baby through the vagina EVEN when a medical professional has told you that you may die and the baby may die yet we insist that we will rather watch the woman die just to hold on to these uninformed medieval delusions that vagina birth is the only way has to stop.
There are women who have small pelvises. There are women who have very big babies. There are women who unfortunately develop very high blood pressures in pregnancy. There are women who simply should not attempt a vagina delivery because it is too medically dangerous to do so.
This does not make them weak: it only means that option is not for them.
And guess what the other option of going through an operation may in some circumstances require far more courage and far more risk than you can ever think or imagine.
If you have ever seen a complicated operative deliver or a complex vagina delivery, you will know both events are incredible demonstrations of courage and strength by these women. To clown one group for another group is simply ignorant and frankly uninformed.
So next time you have a conversation with anyone about how they had their child- if you must have that conversation with them because it’s really none of your business, but let’s say you have to- then please don’t ask “is it CS or is it ‘normal’ delivery”?
Every manner of delivery is normal.
Whether it is through the vagina or through any other means.
It is normal because there is no form of delivery that is not planned, expected or anticipated in one way or another.
A far better way to ask is:
“Was the delivery through the vagina or through an operation?”
I hope everyone - health professionals and even non health professionals, everyone alike- learns and practices this.
This step will help massively against the unnecessary stigmatisation surrounding CS/operative child delivery.
I hope you share this with your friends.
At times, our suffering is caused by the pain and suffering we inflict on others. Remember justice will always prevail. If not today then tomorrow. Ultimately, nobody gets away with anything. The Almighty simply delays it to give us a chance to make amends.
At times, we condemn good people because we disagree with them over a few issues. We refuse to see the good they’re doing. Disagreements do not automatically make a person extreme, bad or evil. Learn to distinguish between the one who respectfully disagrees & the one who is evil!
Life is short. So don’t waste your energies on things & people who don't contribute to your growth & are busy with negativity. Wake daily recharged, eager to put to good use the blessings the Almighty has sent your way. Not everyone has this opportunity. Be grateful!
Count your blessings instead of your problems. Do that often; you’ll emerge the winner. You’ll find pathways charted for you. The Almighty will grant you strength in times of need, peace in chaos, joy in sadness and hope in hopelessness. The Lord of the Worlds won’t disappoint!
Whatever you want to do, do it soonest possible. Don’t wait for the perfect time, the perfect moment, the perfect day. It doesn’t exist. Perfection is not for this world. So before you end up miserable because you’ve been stuck waiting, act on it. Let the Almighty be your Guide.
Stay away from conflict. Choose peace. It’s a better way to go. Choose silence or choose to walk away from those who are always looking for a battle about someone or something. Don’t bother getting drawn into situations that will drain you both mentally and physically!
Not all feedback deserves your attention. Some are constructive and good for you. Some are toxic and can have a negative effect on your well-being, both emotional and mental. Learn to be discerning. Remember, it’s always important to protect your mental and emotional well being.
If your only response to correction even when you are evidently wrong is to say “I said what I said”, you are a simpleton.
If what you said is dumb,
Then merely saying “I said what I said” only reaffirms that you know you are dumb and you wilfully want to remain dumb.
The end.
Whichever way you look at it, this is a victory for Nigeria for the culture and for my people ! Congrats to our winners! Tule Naija! 🇳🇬 #Grammys#foreverchoke
May you never be in a position in your life where someone treats you like trash and you still have to beg them.
May you never need something, or someone, so much that they know it and they use it as an avenue mistreat you and you still say sorry.
May that never be your portion.
