In the last three days I have:
1. Designed and implemented a complete JVM language that Codex believes (whatever that means) would be ideal for AIs to use regardless of what humans think about it. It compiles down to JVM bytecode.
2. Designed and build, from scratch, a wiki with it's own internal web server and fully described by Gherkin style acceptance tests.
3. Made significant updates to the computer strategy of the Empire game.
4. Produce the crap4java and mutate4java tools that I used to help build the wiki.
5. Conceived of and implemented the differential mutation strategy used in both my clojure and Java mutation tools.
And for every one of those projects I implemented a strict TDD, ATDD, Crap, and Mutate workflow that forced coverage into the high 90s, kept Crap below 8, and split any files with more than 50 mutation sites.
My poor laptop had all 16 (8 hyperthreaded) cores burning at 100%. The fan was raging the whole time. I was hopping from window to window overseeing the entire campaign. It was exhausting!
Did that workflow slow the process down? Probably. Probably a lot. On the other hand all these projects maintained rigorous semantic stability, with all unit tests, and acceptance tests passing.
I never ran the wiki until it was done. It worked first time. I never compiled a program with AIR-J until it was done. It worked first time. No bugs have been introduced into the Empire game (so far).
And that, boys and girls, is a freaking miracle.
@itsmattchan@Al_Grigor Everybody can miss, reviewing changes is not a solution. You should never ever give agents the ability to make changes to production. Just like you should not give it to humans. We have CD pipelines and infrastructure as code for that reason.
I think you are misunderstanding what this tech demo actually is, but I will engage with what I think your gripe is — AI tooling trivializing the skillsets of programmers, artists, and designers.
My first games involved hand assembling machine code and turning graph paper characters into hex digits. Software progress has made that work as irrelevant as chariot wheel maintenance.
Building power tools is central to all the progress in computers.
Game engines have radically expanded the range of people involved in game dev, even as they deemphasized the importance of much of my beloved system engineering.
AI tools will allow the best to reach even greater heights, while enabling smaller teams to accomplish more, and bring in some completely new creator demographics.
Yes, we will get to a world where you can get an interactive game (or novel, or movie) out of a prompt, but there will be far better exemplars of the medium still created by dedicated teams of passionate developers.
The world will be vastly wealthier in terms of the content available at any given cost.
Will there be more or less game developer jobs? That is an open question. It could go the way of farming, where labor saving technology allow a tiny fraction of the previous workforce to satisfy everyone, or it could be like social media, where creative entrepreneurship has flourished at many different scales. Regardless, “don’t use power tools because they take people’s jobs” is not a winning strategy.

@SensaHealth, I don't think it's ethical to ask your users that if they suffer from impulsive behaviour and then offer them a discount for a 6-month contract with a big countdown of 15 minutes. It looks like you're profiting off of a symptom for which you offer a cure.
My biggest idea people aren't ready for is 2 dishwashers:
You use one for dirty dishes
You use the other one as storage for clean dishes
Take cups/plates, use them, after put back in dirty dishwasher, wash, now that dishwasher becomes the clean storage
Get rid of cupboards
