i spent thousands of hours learning japanese and flew halfway across the world to confess to the only girl i ever felt any emotions for. she rejected me on the spot and i spent the next three days crying alone in my hotel room. tomato sauce over rice with a protein shake
that definitely enflames it, threatening someone's sovereignty is the quickest way to turn them into a blood and soil nationalist, but this point of comparison has always been the case even before Trump. nor are we new to the idea of separatist movements; the FLQ saw to that.
Canadians would always talk about those poor backward Americans who don't even have free healthcare, seemingly oblivious to the fact that almost no Americans live (i mean - lived) without health insurance. and i am no defender of American healthcare! they spend more tax dollars on healthcare than any other nation yet still don't have guaranteed coverage - truly the worst of both worlds. and yet they still have the most advanced treatment options in the world.
my point isn't to glaze america, far from it. but rather to ask, like, why can't we have that anymore? why can't we have world-leading technology anymore? why can't we be rich anymore?
because those states don't have speed limits. im not even trying to be a dick here man, but the numbers don't lie. our American friends are obsessed with race in a way that we up here just tend not to be - they collect all this data and break it down by race. why did traffic fatalities spike after BLM? why did the spike disproportionately occur in black neighbourhoods?
@AbstractEntityZ@ChrisSc39926891@buperac i genuinely want to know your response to this, man. again im not trying to be a dick, twitter flaming isn't productive and is barely even fun anymore, but Canadians never talk about this
my problem with Canadian culture is that we handwave away all of our (significant) flaws by pointing south and saying "at least we aren't like THOSE guys!" as we get significantly outcompeted in technological progress, industry, and wealth. what happened to the country that built the CanadArm? what happened to the nation that hosted Expo 67? or Expo 86?
Canadians as a group are among the hardest-working and brightest that i have ever worked with. why do we not have this country wrapped up in high speed rail? or at least just Ontario and Quebec? the Skytrain was a marvel at the time, as was VIA rail. we used to be the world's envy for public transit. what happened?
@AbstractEntityZ@ChrisSc39926891@buperac yes, because the black population centres skew the data. even still, the richest Canadian province is poorer than the poorest American state.
