@Exitual_@MarshSMT You keep arguing in circles, bringing up points I've already debunked, and you just admitted to liking guardrails, which an admission of your dislike of RPGs. This conversation is over. I win. You lose. Have a nice day.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT I'm not confusing anything. If I'm roleplaying a lunatic, but I'm not able to kill certain characters because the devs were too lazy/incompetent to build the game in a way that it wouldn't soft lock it, then it's a dogshit RPG. 1/2
@Exitual_@MarshSMT It literally doesn't. All it proves is that Bethesda can't design non-linear quests. But again, it wouldn't matter even if what your saying is true. Because they could just be given the same flag as Lydia. You, the player, would still be able to kill them, but nothing else could.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT Oblivion has the same problems as Skyrim just to a lesser degree, but fine. You can have that one. TW2 classifies as an RPG, because you have actual control over the narrative. Dark Souls is an action game with RPG based character stats. That doesn't make it an RPG.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT I'll give you Dragons Dogma, because I know nothing about it, & TW2, but Fallout 3 & Skyrim are barely RPGs, and the rest of those games objectively aren't. You are the ignorant one.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT Using invincible NPCs to protect your Dogshit linear questline in an RPG is still bad game design. Brother, it's okay to like the game the way it is. You don't have to do all these mental gymnastics to justify it's handedull of objectively bad design choices
@Exitual_@MarshSMT FNV having 3 invincible kids, and a robot that infinitely respawns is nothing compared to the 10s of NPCs in Skyrim that are invincible. A safety net that allows you to kill almost anyone is something Skyrim desperately needed, and doesn't have. You're not helping your case.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT Go play Fallout: New Vegas, and tell my how many "essential NPCs" are in that game. We're not continuing this conversation until you realize that making NPCs invincible absolutely isn't necessary.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT 2/2 the entire game, Intentionaly or not, is basically on training wheels. If your idea of an RPG, is doesn't involve some kind of genuine consequences for player actions, then any game with a story is basically an RPG.
@Exitual_@MarshSMT Being popular doesn't make it a good RPG. it's a fun game, but almost nothing you do actually matters. an RPG where the player has almost no control over the story, world, or fates of any characters (including your own) is barely an RPG.
@ShitpostRock They're flaming you in the replies, but you're absolutely correct. My theory is that most of the original fan base is around the same age, and 4 came out at the exact right time when they were old enough to understand it's mature themes, but still young enough to not be cynical.
@Arron_TK He didn't say "women shouldn't play videogames." He said "gamers are predominantly men", which is demonstrably correct, and developers not understanding this is genuinely half the reason games are so bad nowadays.
