The Church of England has voted to engage with a document by Palestinian Christians that accuses Israel of genocide and describes it as a "colonial enterprise built on racism".
The decision, passed overwhelmingly by the Church's General Synod, has sparked a backlash from Britain's Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis, who called it "shameful", while the Board of Deputies of British Jews also condemned the vote.
For Palestinian Christians, however, it marks a significant moment, with one of the world's most influential Christian institutions signalling a greater willingness to engage with their experiences under Israeli occupation.

Haaretz reported that the Israeli army has closed dozens of investigations into alleged war crimes committed during the war on the Gaza Strip after delaying the announcement for months out of concern that the cases could be used as evidence in ongoing legal proceedings before international courts.
According to the report, the closed cases covered incidents that took place in 2023 and 2024, as well as investigations into the conduct of Israeli soldiers toward Palestinian detainees at the Sde Teiman detention facility. The internal investigations concluded that the incidents under review were, according to the army's assessment, consistent with the laws of war.
The report said the announcement was delayed over concerns that international courts could use the findings in cases against Israel.
