In the 1870’s, before the World Series or World’s Series, the league champions were determined only by their record. So when the big city, big money teams were out of it, they quit. They wouldn’t travel on the road to play games. That led to the failure of the NA.

@kopper @nut_history The field is not below the water. The field as at the same level as the public walkway alongside McCovey Cove, and that’s several feet above the water level.
