I need to make a very PUBLIC announcement on behalf of younger GenXers and older Millennials.
If you see someone in their 40s or 50s who seems a little boring now, I need you to understand something...
We already got it in.
Like...GOT. IT. IN.
We are not sitting home on a Friday night because we never knew how to have fun.
We are sitting home on a Friday night because we have seen enough.
We went to parties in houses that should have been condemned and were almost certainly owned by the local drug dealer.
We saw police lights and RAN and not across a nice, flat field.
INTO THE WOODS.
Do you understand the athleticism required to hurdle uprooted tree roots in platform shoes while simultaneously trying to keep your low-rise jeans from sliding completely off your ass?
And somehow...we never spilled the Zima. We never spilled the Boone’s Farm.
That was TALENT.
We slept on floors in strange houses because the designated driver either never showed up or, in a shocking turn of events, was drunker than everybody else.
There was no Uber, Life360 or Find My Friends.
There was just somebody named Mike saying, “I know a shortcut.”
And we FOLLOWED MIKE.
We closed down bars and then decided the night was still young, so we drove to Atlantic City, where we somehow managed to get drunk, sober up, get drunk again, sober up again and then get drunk a THIRD TIME before breakfast.
And according to our parents? We were at Michelle’s house.
Eating pizza and watching movies.
Michelle’s mother unknowingly covered for approximately 17 people every weekend. If there even was a Michelle.
We drank things called Purple Passion, Mad Dog 20/20 and whatever somebody mixed inside a giant plastic garbage can. Nobody asked what was in it. You grabbed a red Solo cup and trusted the process.
We went to clubs until the lights came on. Do you know the psychological damage of seeing a nightclub with the LIGHTS ON? Nothing good happens after those lights come on.
We danced for four straight hours in shoes that permanently altered the structure of our feet.
We made entire plans without cell phones...no texts, dropped pins or group chats...just an extremely questionable sense of direction.
We rode in cars with 11 people when the vehicle legally seated five. Someone was always sitting on someone. Someone was always in the hatchback.
And there was always one friend yelling, “DUCK!” when we passed a cop.
So yes...now we like being home.
We like sweatpants.
We like cancelling plans.
We like saying, “That sounds fun!” with absolutely no intention of attending.
We like restaurants at 5:30 because we can get a good table.
We like being home by 8:17.
And if someone texts at 9:30 PM and says, “What are you doing?”
Sleeping...we are sleeping.
Because this is not boring my friends...this is retirement.
We already played, partied and danced on the bar.
We already ran from the cops through a wooded area dressed like a Spice Girl.
We have stories that cannot be posted because there are still people with careers, marriages and reputations to protect. And thank GOD there were no camera phones.
So kids, when you look at your Gen X and older Millennial parents sitting peacefully on the couch watching Dateline at 8 PM and think:
“God, you guys are boring.”
Sweetheart...oh sweetheart.
You are looking at retired legends.
Put some respect on our names. We're probably the reason Life360 was invented.
xoxoxo (posted from someone else on FakeBook) 🤣 #genx #oldandtired
@japan_nobunaga I had this exact thing happen to me in Korea. The waitress gave us exceptional service. Even though I knew it wasn’t the custom, I wanted to reward her for going above and beyond. She ran down the street in heals to give the money back. I lessened my lesson.
Was it just me or was that a gun that flew out of the Longhorn head that Carter broke on the ground? If so that explains the medical alert. #DuttonRanch
The World Cup has turned America into a discovery channel for the rest of the world.
And they are not handling it well.
In the best possible way.
Here is what they are discovering:
Free public restrooms. Europeans pay every time.
Free water at every restaurant. Just appears.
Free refills. Coffee. Sodas. Iced tea. Unlimited.
Free chips and salsa before you even order.
Free warm bread with dinner.
Ice in drinks like civilized people.
Air conditioning everywhere. Not a moral debate. A fact.
Parking lots attached to the actual place you are going.
Drive throughs where the food comes to the car while you sit in it.
Ranch dressing by the gallon.
Tex-Mex that cannot be explained only experienced.
Dental care that actually works.
Buccee’s. There are no words for Buccee’s.
Then they found the grocery stores.
Five of them within one mile.
Each one the size of an aircraft hangar.
Burgers. Steaks. Brisket. Ribs. Pulled pork. Lamb. Veal. Every cut of every animal ever domesticated by human civilization available in one refrigerated aisle at ten in the morning on a Tuesday.
The Germans stood in the meat section for forty five minutes.
In silence.
Processing.
They finally understand why we do not have trains.
We have roads wide enough for the cars we actually drive.
Parking lots the size of small European countries.
Airports in every city worth visiting.
Why would we need trains.
The Germans are taking ranch home by the bottle.
The Dutch found queso and briefly lost the ability to speak.
The Japanese are photographing HEB like it is the Louvre.
The Czechs are weeping in West, Texas.
Welcome to America!
The greatest country on earth.
Haven’t we learned anything from the last 8 years about President Trump? Stop obsessing on words and focus on his actions. He’s in the middle of the negotiation of his lifetime. Anything he says and does now is part of that negotiation. He is NOT a politician. Don’t expect him to negotiate like one.
@EricLDaugh Interesting idea in theory but it takes months of training to be certified to do anything at a checkpoint so they would just be telling people to take their laptops out of the case or stacking the bins.
@FoxNews TSA is just one part of DHS. They’re just visible to the public and making Congress look terrible right now. If only TSA gets paid then everyone forgets about all those other poor employees working without a paycheck. This could go on forever. Do your job Senators and fund DHS!
NEW: Senator Markwayne Mullin tears up as he tells a story about how President Trump went to work for him when he found out his son had a traumatic brain injury.
Mullin explained how his son became a completely different kid after the injury.
“Here you had a world-class athlete that wrestled all over the world since he was 12 years old, and he couldn't touch his nose, he couldn't walk without shuffling his feet…”
“And then [Trump] says, ‘I'm gonna come see him.’”
“This is the middle of the election. This is Bakersfield, California. Really not an area he's gotta go campaign. And he took the time to come up there and see Jim…”
🚨 BEAUTIFUL: Members of the National Guard were spotted praying together outside the DC hospital where their fellow soldiers are fighting for their lives
Keep praying for a miracle here 🙏🏻 https://t.co/loyB8VqvLG
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent lashed out at Bill Pulte in a near-violent blowup between two of the Trump administration’s highest-profile figures at an exclusive dinner last week, POLITICO's Rachael Bade reports.
We've got the details in Playbook: https://t.co/pOy3p2M1Zb
