Brooklyn Park has it all. Car chases, car crashes, old ladies calling for help, me once again having to break open a door on a smoking car to try and get a woman out, Baltimore Police arresting a guy at gunpoint who hit the old lady, another guy bailing out and being chased by K9's and helicopters. It's all happening in our front yard.
Around 6pm I hear a loud crash in front of the house. I peek out the window and I see a car that looks a lot like Jennifer so I make a b-line for the door. As I get closer I see a bunch of Baltimore police in front of the neighbors house with a guy on the ground.
I get closer to the car. I'm relieved it's not Jennifer, but I hear someone crying for help. I see some smoke coming from the car as I push the driver side curtain airbag out of the way and an older woman says "please get me out of here the car is smoking."
I started to pull on the door but it was not opening. I got my hands inside the top and began to bend the door down about half way but it still wouldn't open. At this point my neighbor James ran to help me and we got the door almost open but it was too bent.
We asked the woman Margi if she could make her way to the passenger door and she started to move over there. The woman was in pain and said her leg hurt but got over there.
At this point other good samaritans helped get her out of the passenger door and on the curb. Luckily the car stopped smoking.
I was surprised the police didn't even come close to Margi's car to help by this point. I soon learned that while they had the one guy subdued after getting him out of the car at gun point another passenger had bailed out and police K9's and a helicopter were chasing him.
Police allegedly found multiple guns and the car was stolen with fake tags. They had chased him from Baltimore City up Church Street to our house where he tried to pass on a double yellow and hit the poor woman head on. So I guess they had their hands full.
After things calmed down a bit as we waited for the ambulance I asked one of the Baltimore Police if they got the guy who bailed. He grinned and said "Of course." I laughed more because of how he said it.
Margi went to the hospital. I think she may have broke her leg or at least hurt it real bad.
Wear your seatbelts. Drive safely. Be careful.
Be Kind.
