At a meeting of the Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) presided over by Vice President @officialSKSM who doubles as the Chairman, we received a presidential directive for the activation of the Fusion and Trigger Room concept for the coordination of early action against flooding and other climate-related disasters.
The platform shall be the nerve centre for hazard anticipation, data consolidation, and disaster response activation and coordination, and will be fully integrated into Nigeria’s broader disaster management architecture.
The Vice President also noted that the National Economic Council’s approval of intervention fund for AATF is a clear demonstration of the firm commitment of the President Tinubu-led government to shifting from reactive emergency response to proactive disaster preparedness.
With strong support from the Presidency and sub-national governments, the AATF is determined to leave nothing to chance in its drive to build a nation better prepared for disasters in this rainy season and in the years ahead.

As we mark the close of entries for the National Essay Competition on Emergency Management Awareness at midnight today, I extend my sincere appreciation to all participants across Nigeria who have responded to this important national call.
When we launched this competition on April 1, our objective was clear—to engage young Nigerians in a meaningful conversation about disaster preparedness, emergency response, and the shared responsibility of building resilient communities. Today, we are encouraged by the overwhelming response, with close to four thousand entries received across the various categories.
This level of participation is both commendable and reassuring. It reflects a growing awareness among our young people that disasters do not give notice, and that preparedness must begin with informed and responsible citizens. It also affirms our belief that the next generation is ready to think critically and contribute meaningfully to national resilience.
I commend the students, members of the National Youth Service Corps Emergency Management Vanguards, as well as their teachers, institutions, and families, for the time, effort, and thought invested in these submissions. Your voices matter, and your ideas are vital to shaping a safer Nigeria.
Let me assure all participants and the general public that every entry received will be treated with the utmost fairness and professionalism. An esteemed panel of assessors—comprising experts in disaster risk management and development communications—has been constituted to ensure a rigorous, transparent, and credible evaluation process.
We remain committed to ensuring that all entries are properly processed, assessed, and accounted for, in line with the highest standards of integrity. Regular updates will be provided as the assessment progresses, leading to the announcement of winners in due course.
As we move into the next phase, I encourage all participants to remain engaged with the ideals that this competition represents. Emergency management is not a one-time conversation—it is a continuous commitment to preparedness, responsibility, and collective action.
This message is particularly timely as our country approaches the rainy season, a period often associated with flooding, displacement, and other avoidable emergencies. It is therefore imperative that all hands remain on deck—government, communities, and citizens alike—to translate awareness into practical preparedness measures that can help prevent or significantly reduce the negative fallouts typically experienced during this season.
I urge all Nigerians to take simple but critical steps: pay close attention to early warning advisories issued by relevant agencies, ensure that drainage channels in our homes and communities are cleared and unobstructed, and avoid or relocate from flood-prone areas where necessary. These actions, taken collectively, can make the difference between vulnerability and resilience.
Together, we can continue to build a nation where awareness leads to preparedness, and preparedness saves lives.
Thank you. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
I played host to a delegation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre @KSRelief_EN led by Mr. Nasser Al-Subaie, during which we explored avenues to strengthen our partnership, particularly, in the provision of humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
With our agency’s close coordination, programmes of KSrelief in Nigeria have, over the years, complemented the efforts of the Federal Government in providing food assistance and relief to the distressed.
