Former members of JCM have alleged that Bishop Ben engaged in practices they describe as harvesting investors’ energy and financially draining congregants. According to them, members were frequently compelled to contribute amounts of up to KSh 600,000 during fundraising drives. They further claimed that individuals were publicly singled out during services and instructed to give specific sums of money.
In response to these allegations, Bishop Ben dismissed the claims, stating that those making them were driven by jealousy, hatred, and evil forces. He maintained that giving does not make anyone poor and argued that business failure is a normal occurrence in life.
However, several individuals cited by the Governor wa Diaspora as having joined JCM while financially stable and later experiencing serious decline were mentioned.
Jeff Fanikisha was said to have contributed KSh 600,000 during Bishop Ben’s ordination—KSh 300,000 as a contribution and KSh 300,000 as a loan. It was alleged that the loan was never repaid and that his business later collapsed.
Another individual, known as Zunguka, reportedly assisted the church extensively, including mobilizing people without charge, while his Mercedes-Benz was allegedly used by the Bishop. It was claimed that his vehicle was later repossessed, his wines and spirits businesses closed, and his financial situation deteriorated.
Jeff Mathai was reported to have personally financed uniforms for Sunday school children and the youth ministry until he eventually faced financial decline.
Mapangare was said to have joined JCM while operating M-Pesa and electronics businesses, all of which were later closed.
Ndarugu wa Ndarigo Mawe reportedly joined the church while trading in building stones, but his business allegedly collapsed thereafter.
Another individual, referred to as “Wa Avocado,” was said to have been exporting avocados before joining JCM. It was alleged that his export business ended and his license was cancelled.
Murage of Modern Furnitures was reported to have closed his Nakuru shop before leaving the church. Sources claim he later stabilized after his exit.
Finally, a woman known as “Mrembo wa Mobile Spares” was reported to have faced severe financial hardship before leaving JCM, after which her situation reportedly improved.
