Attendant at Indian Oil Bunk, Kottivakkam, OMR, tried a cute trick.
He filled up petrol for ₹5,240. Peeked into vehicle, made a remark about interiors, stood covering the amount, and quietly entered ₹5,640 in the card machine, and asked me to enter PIN.
I frowned. Said, “Sema makkunu nenachitingalla?” He smiled sheepishly, said sorry, and corrected the amount instantly.
Can’t relax for a minute, engayum. 🥲
Is Rancidity a real concern with Omega 3 Supplements?
Omega 3 (EPA & DHA) is one of the most evidence-backed supplements for cardiovascular health, lowering triglycerides, and supporting brain & eye health.
But there’s one important concern❗️
Omega 3 fats are highly prone to oxidation.
Once oxidized, they form rancidity by-products that may reduce product quality & potentially diminish some of their benefits.
What does the evidence say?
📝 Albert et al. (PMID: 25604397)
Analyzed retail fish oil supplements in New Zealand.
Over 80% exceeded at least one recommended oxidation limit.
📝 Mason et al. (PMID: 28011269)
Tested three of the top selling U.S. fish oil supplements.
Found oxidation markers above recommended industry limits, while a prescription omega 3 product met those limits.
📝 Bannenberg et al. (PMID: 28469193)
Tested 48 of the best selling US omega 3 supplements using independent labs.
Found that most products met recommended oxidation standards, although a small number did not.
Takeaway
The claim that “most omega 3 supplements are oxidized” is not supported by entirely true.
The evidence suggests that
- Omega 3 supplements can oxidize because these fats are chemically unstable.
- Product quality varies considerably between manufacturers.
- Some studies found a high proportion of oxidized products, whereas others found that most products met recommended quality standards.
Practical advice
✅ Choose reputable brands that undergo third party testing.
✅ Buy products with a recent manufacturing date & adequate shelf life.
✅ Store capsules away from heat, light & moisture.
✅ If the capsules smell strongly rancid or unusually fishy, discard them.
💊 From an Indian point of view, it is better to avoid cheaper Indian brands & go for international brands if your budget allows.
It was a historic day for markets.
Over 500 million shares of SpaceX, $SPCX, were traded today, with volume exceeding $80 BILLION.
SpaceX is now the 7th largest public company in the world.
Congratulations to all!
In Tamil Nadu, drinkers do not have much choice. They have to be content with whatever the TASMAC retail shops sell. One day a particular brand will be available, and the next day it may disappear, replaced by another. In rural areas, chilled beer is a rarity. Only the elite outlets offer some options and a better experience. But customers have to pay more than the MRP.
A few years ago, there was a proposal to make all brands available in Tamil Nadu, as in neighbouring Karnataka. But the move failed to materialise, reportedly because distillery owners opposed it.
Complete closure of liquor sales may not be practical. But at the very least, consumers should have a choice. Make all brands available and let buyers decide what they want to purchase.
An old schoolmate liked one of my LinkedIn posts recently.
We hadn't spoken for years, so I checked his profile to see what he’s up to now.
That sent me down a rabbit hole- scrolling through profiles of classmates I’m no longer in touch with.
We’re all connected in some form: Facebook, LinkedIn,common Google group email id(which hasn't been used for years), a WhatsApp group… but you know how that goes.
Anyway, what struck me was how well everyone is doing.
While some were always the studious, ambitious types, many were carefree, up to mischief, constantly playing street cricket, sneaking off to watch movies and getting yelled at. They were often called “hopeless”, with teachers sometimes mocking them as "outstanding" (always standing outside the class because they were behind on assignments).
And yet, these kids from ordinary, middle-class families who seemed beyond redemption, are now directors, consultants, top engineers at world-class companies.
It gave me hope.
At a time when we constantly worry about AI taking away everything we've worked on for years, I’d like to believe life has a way of sorting itself out.
Call me an inveterate optimist, but maybe we shouldn’t let fear of the future steal the joy of the present.
On that slightly preachy note, have a lovely long weekend everyone!
You know about Rabies Vaccine. Right?
If you had taken Rabies vaccine by name Abhayrab, especially batch number KA24014 between Nov 2023 till date, please consult your doctor. You may have to repeat it, because a fake version of the vaccine was being given to some till the company realized the problem and took it away from the shelves in Jan 2025
@MoHFW_INDIA , Sir, please do issue an advisory. It's not enough that the fake version has been taken off the shelves. Those who have received the fake version need to be informed too, so that they take the vaccine again.
The perpetrators of this crime need to be brought to justice!
One of my IIT friends, well-settled in life, once told me, ‘Sometimes, I feel incomplete and purposeless.
It happens with all of us.
Real life begins after we settle—job, family, house. Once the hustle ends, we start searching for meaning.
Why does it happen? 4 points 🧵👇
You take a 15Y home loan at say 9%. You prepay in 7-8Y as most do, or invest prepayment in equity. If chance of getting a post-tax return >9% over 15Y is reasonable investing is better (math-wise, emotions say prepay). What will you do? Pl comment your logic and repost for reach.
Someone ordered eggs on Instamart and only one came cracked.
Instead of just reporting it, they opened Gemini Nano and literally typed:
“apply more cracks.”
In a few seconds, AI turned that tray into 20+ cracked eggs — flawless, realistic, impossible to distinguish.
Support took one look at the “proof”…
processed a full refund…
and moved on.
Just pause and think about that.
Our refund systems were built for a world where photos were trustworthy.
But now they’re up against 2025-level AI —
and they’re getting absolutely destroyed.
If even 1% of people start doing this,
quick-commerce unit economics won’t just suffer —
they’ll implode.
AI isn’t the villain here.
The real problem is verification systems stuck in the past.
Welcome to the era of AI vs AI.
