@ryanripkenshow Albernaz is a good example of guy that's a great Coach, but a bad Manager. Lacks on field team strategy, but seems ok at focusing on technical instruction and skill development. He needs a Bench Coach like a Buck Showalter type, not a Donnie Ecker analytic type.
John Beilein goes into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. His run at WVU was storybook, and the Elite 8 run in 2005 is one of the greatest stretches in Mountaineer history.
This was one of my favorite recruiting videos I ever made for WVU—it quickly became a video people just wanted to watch to relive that incredible team. There was no YouTube at the time, so I'd burn DVDs and hand them out.
As the teams exploded onto the national scene during the Big East and NCAA tournaments, newspapers were still the pulse of the sports world. I wanted to capture that spotlight in the edit. I had Tony Caridi bring me back physical New York newspapers from the Big East run, and tracked down others along the way to weave into the piece.
At the Wake Forest game in Cleveland, LeBron James sat nearby. He was in his early years with the Cavs and knew Mike Gansey from their high school basketball days in the Cleveland area. Mike’s performance that night was legendary. Fittingly, both LeBron and Gansey are now with the 76ers.
On a personal note, Coach Beilein has remained a true friend and mentor in my own coaching journey. He has given me invaluable advice that only a coach who has seen it all can offer—shaping my own philosophy on how to build a genuinely connected team.
Watching the recent run by @WVUBaseball brought all of this right back. It was that same kind of deeply connected team that brought people together in an emotional way and made Mountaineer fans incredibly proud.
Fox Sports put it best: “The 2004-05 Mountaineers were easy to fall in love with and difficult to let go of.”

@joshsroka Fancy Clancy. Just a constant presence at the park. Was there when I was a kid going to the park with my dad, was there in the '00's living when I lived in Greenbelt, and just this past year I came back with my son and saw him.
@SK9PerimFunctio@voicemorgantown@PatMcAfeeShow I heard to reverse it you need to chug a Natty at the old Den, then walk up to Grant Ave and chug a Natty, go to where Old Man Maurice was on Beechurst, chug a Natty and then go where the "The Pit" was and chug two Natty's! Let's Goooooo!
@Comet_Athletics@HillsboroBanner@msu_baseball It was our first time at a Mayville State Baseball game since my son is a freshman on the team and it was two good baseball games! Thank you @HillsboroBanner for taking pictures, got a great pic of my son, freshman, Grant Goddard, that I bought last night. Can't wait for 27!
Love seeing this for 17! Just hard working and dirt under fingernail type family! From my days at Extreme Fitness seeing Travis working hard and setting the example and coaching against them in Little League baseball, just tough and pure Bulldog!
@TheLastLowrey@awfulannouncing Sure, but when it’s a hall of fame Orioles Legend that has been around baseball longer than Albernaz has been alive, he should have listened. Wouldn’t call Palmer from the outside.
@ryanripkenshow I didn't agree with giving the keys to 2026 O's to a rookie Manager. I liked how the 2023 Texas Rangers brought in Bruce Bochy. There is something to having managers like Buck Showalter that actually know the game of baseball. There needs to be a happy medium with analytics.
