Somalia’s capital city has been synonymous with violence ever since the central state collapsed in the 1990s. Yet in recent years it has undergone a quiet transformation. We explain how https://t.co/7fMxd6Lvi0
The forced displacement of vulnerable city residents in the Buulo-Eelaay neighborhood of Waaberi this morning is another devastating and heartless act by the reckless regime of a President whose mandate has expired.
To turn guns on these impoverished families and arrest them simply for raising their voices against this unconscionable act is a tragedy. This regime’s tenure has been defined by hardship and despair for our most vulnerable, uprooting more than half a million citizens across the capital. Instead of providing shelter, relief, and opportunity, this government forces struggling families to watch while bulldozers tear down their homes.
The grief of displaced families and the trauma inflicted on innocent children will forever remain a dark stain on HSM’s record. This continuous brutal conduct strikes at the very heart of the Somali peoples dignity, destroys livelihoods, and shatters any public trust in our national institutions.
@AliOmarMP Improved security ? Tell that to the Somalis your government is killing and kicking out of their homes in Mogadishu. People are investing despite you, not because of you.
Keep the propaganda coming though.
Congratulations to PSG on another great achievement! 🏆
And a special congratulations to Omar Artan.
Tonight, football gave him the stage he deserved. 👏⚽
@SomaliGuardian Bro you’re just asal Madoorshe running errands for your master. Zero capacity, zero backbone, zero business being PM of anything. Adiga ma cid baa waddanka wax ka waydiisa🤣
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is the worst president Somalia has ever had. He looted the country dry, stole US-funded humanitarian aid through a family-run SoDMA, stuffed every key post with his daughter, son-in-law, cousins and clan boys, grabbed public land and kicked people onto the streets while his circle got filthy rich. Pure corruption, pure nepotism, pure theft. A dark stain on modern Somalia.
“Our coastline, the longest on mainland
Africa, is a strategic national resource that can drive economic growth, create jobs, strengthen regional connectivity and improve the livelihoods of our people.”
- President @HassanSMohamud at the 1st Somalia Martime Summit
Steal the seat of a sitting MP. Then, months later, become Speaker through a one-man race in a Parliament whose mandate had already expired. Welcome to the banana republic of Somalia. 🤣
Just stating the facts. The regions are not equal in terms of size, population, political development, and so on. So different decentralization instruments must be used. That is all I said.
@tuncdemirtas The first sentence tells me you lack historical perspective. If that’s your opening line, don’t lecture others on a subject you clearly haven’t put into proper context.
Interesting perspective. I think the debate should focus less on federalism vs. centralization and more on sharing power based on reality.
Federal member states differ in institutional capacity, economic strength, infrastructure, and their ability to govern. If those realities are different, expecting identical constitutional powers may not be the most effective model.
The same principle should apply to national power sharing. Somalia should move beyond the 4.5 formula and build a constitutional system based on objective criteria such as population, institutional capacity, governance responsibilities, and economic contribution, while guaranteeing equal rights and equal citizenship for every Somali.
I am pleased to announce that the Republic of Somaliland’s Embassy will be located in Jerusalem - the Embassy will be opened soon, while Israel will also establish its Embassy in Hargeisa, reflecting growing friendship, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation between our two peoples.
@AmbMohamedHagi Calling this “mutual respect” while Palestinians die every day is shameful. History remembers those who traded dignity for political attention. Jerusalem will always remain Palestinian in the hearts of millions ee ku biya cab.
@grok@AbdiwahabSheik7 So Ethiopia going from 34M to 139M is over 4x, with much weaker visible urban concentration and politically sensitive regional counts ?
@grok@AbdiwahabSheik7 you’re still treating Ethiopia’s model-built numbers as acceptable while Somalia’s higher estimate gets dismissed. Also, name another country that grew from around 34M to nearly 139M in the same period while its biggest cities remain that small.
@grok@AbdiwahabSheik7 You’re proving my point: Ethiopia’s 1979 number was a projection, and today’s 139M relies heavily on rural modeling, so you can’t call it “solid” while dismissing Somalia’s uncertainty. Ethiopia’s population claim also deserves serious scrutiny, not automatic acceptance.
Calling Ethiopia’s 1979 data “solid” is already shaky its first modern census was 1984, not 1979, and even that had coverage limits. Add to that Addis Ababa is around 6.7M while the next major cities are under 600k, so if Ethiopia is really 139M, the argument must rely heavily on rural population modeling not solid census certainty.
