Even when he did play he along with the team just didn’t look as good. Not a knock on him cuz he’s a great player but he hurt them more then he helped them against the spurs

@StNickCryptic @pnyxhill @supalaser @Peterrific_ @LukaToBron All due respect to Kobe but I don’t think he was robbed in 02-03. Tim Duncan clearly deserved that mvp and Kobe wasn’t even the mvp of his own team. Shaq missed the first 12 games of the season and the lakers went 3-9 in those games.

He just had a much larger load on offense combined with his age he just can’t put out that much effort on defense. It’s not that he’s not capable he just doesn’t have the energy to be able to

He had a much larger load on offense so he couldn’t give 100% effort on defense every possession every game

It’s not necessarily because of his talent or that he just all of a sudden became a bad defender, he just had to take on much more of an offensive role after shaq left so then his defense obviously suffers
