I used to judge people addicted to drugs and alcohol.

I thought I was better because I didn’t indulge.

I am deeply ashamed of this old opinion.

The truth was that I didn’t understand what crippling pain was. The type that keeps you bedridden, gives you flashbacks, controls your body, has triggers, makes you plan your own suicide, or weighs you down so much it affects everything you do.

And only when life conspired to make me question my desire to see another day did I finally understand just why someone might self medicate.

When all you can do is survive another hour, you’ll feel a terrible longing for anything to dull the pain. You’ll frantically call or text anyone, you’ll research anything, you’ll place your hope in the leakiest of boats, if only because you just need relief from your figurative and literal demons.

No, I was never addicted to drugs or alcohol, but that’s because they were never my vice. Therefore it was easy to look down upon other “sinners” who battled what I didn’t fall into.

And it was a deeply sinful thing to do.

Addicts don’t need derision and hopeless judgement. Most of them already know the vice is evil. But they feel trapped, as if the vice is the only thing keeping them from suicide.

Addicts need HOPE. A brighter future. A better life. A reason to keep going and be free.

Addicts need love.

And there is no greater love than Jesus Christ.

When I suffered a mental breakdown, I suddenly learned just what it felt like to be low. And why substance abuse would be a very attractive escape. The only reason I didn’t follow suit was the fact that I wasn’t surrounded by it. I think now that in those dark days, I would have partaken if someone took advantage of my weakness.

Pride makes us feel invulnerable, but few of us know just how weak we’d be to sin once Satan truly had his way with us. Most of us don’t understand how blessed we are that such terrible things have been kept out of our lives.

When we see the struggles of others, we must humbly acknowledge our own sins before we confidently judge others, so that mercy outweighs our self righteousness. Yes, people are responsible for what they choose to do, and yet, many of us may have made similar choices in similar circumstances.

If you’re addicted, I pray you seek help, and receive the support you need. There is so much beauty in life and it’s yours for the taking, but first, you need to heal.

Well um I'm just gonna take that as the ones who are interrupting parliament aren't actually doing anything to help their people and represent a small but loud minority, and who are race baiters. This sort of thing is dangerous and creates a divided society, victim mentality, keeps people stuck, causes mistrust, ostracization, and alienation. We should be building bridges not burning them.

Polytheists weren't engaging in wars for religious reasons, they actually were tolerant of other beliefs. Christians, Jews, Polytheists, all were able to move around and engage in trade. Mohammad borrowed and ripped off much of what he knew from the Christians and Jewish traders he met. He even misquotes the words of the Apostle Paul and Attributed that to being said by God. Mohammad came along and started conflict and wars, then acted like the victim. Much like Muslims do today - Perform terrorist acts then act like victims when they get blown up and claim they are martyrs in order to try get sympathy and try propagate Islam.
