Heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ashoke Sen on receiving the Oskar Klein Medal. His extraordinary contributions to theoretical physics are a source of immense pride. Equally admirable is his courage to speak truth to power. His steadfast defence of scientific temper, rational thought and democratic values reminds us that science must challenge dogma, uphold freedom of expression and remain committed to justice and human dignity.
Fort Kochi and Varkala are places where cultures meet, histories intertwine and diversity thrives. Now, a vlogger peddling hate for profit seeks to paint these vibrant destinations in communal colours. Having failed to divide Keralam, the Sangh Parivar is outsourcing its hate campaign to online provocateurs. But Keralam’s secular spirit will not yield to their politics of hatred. The State Government must take strict legal action against those spreading communal enmity.
Is exempting Vigilance files from the Right to Information Act now the declared policy of the Congress? The move by the UDF government in Kerala, following the exposure of Vigilance records concerning Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, raises serious questions about whether this is an attempt to shield those in power. A party that claims credit for the RTI Act must explain this assault on transparency. Does the @INCIndia leadership endorse this move?

The Sangh Parivar’s attacks on CPI(M) bookstalls in Kolkata expose its intolerance of free thought and democratic dissent.
But no force can crush ideas. The united resistance of local people, youth and party workers reaffirms that Bengal’s secular, progressive spirit remains unbroken.
We stand in solidarity with our comrades in Bengal. Books and ideas will always outlast the bulldozers of fascists.
In 1932, on the first anniversary of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom, a 16 year-old boy hoisted the tricolour at Hoshiarpur District Court in Punjab. For this crime, he was shot and jailed by the British. That young boy went on to become the General Secretary of CPI(M). His name was Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are in jail for gathering peacefully at Jantar Mantar and hoisting the tricolour. Student and youth protesters, along with Rajya Sabha MPs AA Rahim and V Sivadasan, were manhandled and are being detained by the Delhi Police for marching peacefully to Jantar Mantar. Many students, including women, are yet to recover from the shocking assault and torture they have been subjected to over the past few days. They are still hitting the streets to defend the right to vote and the right to protest.
Persecuting peaceful protesters did not end well for the British. Modi and Amit Shah will be no different.
The SFI and DYFI had called a protest march from Firoz Shah Road to Jantar Mantar. The police and paramilitary forces stopped the march and detained all the protesters.

In a democracy, the right to protest should never be confined to a designated site. Under Modi’s government, even that limited space is being taken away.
The irony is staggering: a government that wraps itself in the Tricolour is detaining young leaders like @SauravDassss, @AshutoshRanka and @AjinkyaCJP for waving it in protest. The flag belongs to the people, not those in power.
We must unite to reclaim Jantar Mantar and defend our right to dissent. CEC Gyanesh Kumar must resign and face prosecution.
#GyaneshkumarMustGo
Police repression cannot be whitewashed by branding videos exposing it as “misleading.” When protesters face extrajudicial methods of suppression, documenting and exposing such abuses is a democratic duty, not a crime. @DelhiPolice cannot be allowed to turn censorship into a weapon to hunt down those who expose its brutality. The uniform is not a licence for impunity, and state power cannot be used to silence the truth.
CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby and senior leader Brinda Karat addressed the media at AK Gopalan Bhawan in New Delhi, along with student and youth protesters against SIR who were subjected to police brutality.
Democracy has been battered on the streets of Delhi over the past two days. Thousands of protesters were attacked and detained for demanding accountability from the Election Commission.
Standing in defense of democracy, figures like @cpimspeak Rajya Sabha leader @JohnBrittas, @SFI_CEC President @Adarshmsaji , @dyficec Central Executive Committee Member, @jaickcthomas, @Cockroachisback leaders @abhijeet_dipke, @SauravDassss, and @AshutoshRanka, YouTuber and activist @dhruv_rathee bore the brunt of the Modi government's heavy-handed repression, joining thousands of others who took to the streets.
Peaceful protesters were met with batons, humiliation and mass detention. The Modi government must answer for this assault on democratic rights. You may detain thousands, but you cannot imprison the conscience of a nation
Imagine being so scared of the opposition that you make the Delhi Police detain elected reps and drive them around in circles for an hour just to keep them quiet.
Modi’s panic is really showing here, and honestly, it’s just embarrassing at this point. Such high-handed tactics are a blatant attack on our democratic rights, but we will not be intimidated.

The revelations about objections raised by two Election Commissioners over decisions concerning voter registration, deletion of names and #SIR raise grave questions about the functioning of the ECI. CEC Gyanesh Kumar must be removed, SIR must be halted, the voting rights of those wrongfully excluded must be restored, and the independence and credibility of the Election Commission must be protected. The right to vote belongs to the people of India. It cannot be manipulated to serve the political interests of the BJP and Sangh Parivar.
The Union Government’s move to impose a 0.4% fee on specified UPI transactions above ₹2,000 is a brazen betrayal of the promise of Digital India.
After pushing millions of ordinary citizens, workers and small traders into a digital payment system built as public infrastructure, it is now turning UPI into a profit-making avenue for financial and fintech interests, with the burden ultimately passed on to consumers.
UPI cannot become another instrument for extracting money from the people to enrich corporate interests. The Union Government must immediately withdraw this decision.
The NCLT’s approval of a repayment plan of a meagre ₹6.5 crore against claims of ₹22,006.57 crore involving Zee Group founder Subhash Chandra exposes the deep nexus between big corporate interests and the BJP. His close ties with the BJP and the Sangh Parivar only make this clearer. While the poor face harsh consequences for even small defaults, the rich and powerful continue to receive favourable treatment at the expense of ordinary taxpayers. This blatant injustice cannot be allowed to pass. The NCLT order must be reversed, and the interests of ordinary people must take precedence over those of the powerful.
In New York, Mohan Bhagwat speaks of “one humanity”, equal dignity and a Hindutva that accepts every human being. At home, Mallikarjun Kharge is allegedly subjected to a “purification” ritual in #Haldwani because of his Dalit identity, while atrocities against Dalits and minorities are reported every day. Even yesterday, a Dalit man died in police custody in Uttar Pradesh.
India does not need sermons on unity abroad while #CasteDiscrimination and communal division persist at home. The RSS’s communal, casteist and divisive ideology seeks to perpetuate social hierarchies and pit communities against one another. This must be confronted in defence of our Constitution and equal rights.
The reported inclusion of questions about parents’ place of birth and religion in the upcoming Census is deeply troubling. The Census must not become a backdoor for the NPR and, eventually, the NRC. Citizenship cannot be tied to religion, and no census should be used to divide our people. The Union Government must immediately drop such divisive questions. Secular forces must stand united against this dangerous move.
The UDF Government’s silence in Kerala is equally worrying. The LDF Government had decided in 2019 that NPR would not be implemented in Kerala and reaffirmed this position ahead of the 2027 Census. The Congress cannot wash its hands of the NPR, having implemented it in 2010. Will the UDF Government stand up against this divisive agenda, or allow the Union Government’s political agenda to move forward?
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Dimagi Naxal” remark in his Independence Day speech shows that his government is planning to attack left and democratic forces, and all those who raise questions. This is a big threat to democratic rights and civil liberties.”
- M A Baby, CPI(M) General Secretary
Leaving behind its legacy of secular democracy, the @INCIndia party is now unashamedly embracing the Hindutva ideology of the @RSSorg. The full version of Vande Mataram was sung at #IndependenceDay functions, including at the AICC headquarters and in Congress-ruled states, despite there being no legal obligation to do so.
This ideological convergence weakens the united struggle of secular forces against communalism. At a time when defending India’s secular and democratic character demands greater unity, the Congress’s capitulation to the Sangh Parivar only serves to undermine it.
