And that was the reason Michael Jackson's albums were so phenomenally successful is because he perfected the strategy of using absence to build anticipation. He would stay out of the public eye for years. No interviews, no tours, no sightings. Then, when the anticipation has reached fever pitch, boom, he releases an album! When you notice that people start taking you for granted and disrespecting you, it is likely because you have made yourself too available for them. Napoleon Bonaparte said, "If I am often seen at the theatre, people will cease to notice me". Use absence more than you use presence. Long time no see is better than 'Oh, it's you again'. Be conscious of where you go. People treat friends and family like they treat money. The more they see money, the less they value it. The less they see moolah, the more they value it!

ZAMFARA GOV’T VERIFIES 3079 RETIREES, SETTLES N2.3 BILLION BACKLOG OF GRATUITIES @daudalawal_

Zamfara State Government has verified 3,079 retirees in an effort to pay the backlog of gratuities owed by previous administrations.

Retired state and local government workers in Zamfara State have not received their gratuities since 2011, which have accumulated over the years.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Zamfara Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that a total of 1746 pensioners from both the state and local government received two tranches of payment amounting to N2,312,841,065.08.

The statement added that the second tranche of verified pensioners' gratuity payments began last Friday, bringing relief to retirees who had been waiting for their entitlements for years.

“Tremendous progress has been made in verifying state and local government pensioners. Payment for the second tranche of verified pensioners' gratuity commenced on Friday, March 1, 2024.

“A total of 413 verified pensioners from the state have been paid a sum of about NGN 682,228,647.38 (six hundred and eighty-two million, two hundred and twenty thousand, six hundred- and forty-seven-naira thirty-eight kobo only).

“Also, the payment of the second tranche of verified pensioners from Local Governments has commenced. A total of 403 verified pensioners from the Local Governments, amounting to N449,667,142.08 (four hundred and forty-nine million, six hundred and sixty-seven thousand, one hundred and forty-two naira and eight kobo only), have been paid.

“Out of the 3079 pensioners who have been verified, 1746 have received their gratuity payments in two tranches from both the state and local governments. The total amount paid so far is N2,312,841,065.08 (two billion, three hundred and twelve million, eight hundred and forty-one thousand, sixty-five naira and eight kobo only).

“The process of verifying and authenticating retirees is still ongoing, with payments being made to those who have been cleared.”

Please do not feed this fallacy. Nigeria is not "oil rich". We are oil poor. On a per capita basis, Ghana is more oil rich than we are. We produce 1.5 million barrels per day for a population of 220 million people. Ghana produces 200,000 barrels per day for a population of 32 million. Yet, Ghana's economy is more distressed than Nigeria's.

Venezuela has by far more oil than Nigeria, and only 12% of our population, yet there is DAILY looting there.

Nigeria is not a rich country. Saudi Arabia has a population of 35 million and makes $350 billion annually from oil. That is $10,000 per citizen. Nigeria has a population of 220 million people and makes approximately $36 billion from crude annually. That is $150 per person. At 2.6 million people, Qatar has just one per cent of our population. Yet, their annual revenue is $68 billion. Two and a half times that of Nigeria. 

When we keep telling our people that Nigeria is oil rich, we feed an entitlement mentality that makes Nigerians have unlimited expectations from their Government. Meanwhile, we have one of the lowest tax-to-GDP ratios on Earth.
