Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a solo home run off Josh Johnson, and that was all the offense the Phillies needed as they defeated the Marlins 1-0.

Rollins would go on to finish his Phillies career with 27 leadoff home runs, the most in franchise history.

On this day in Philly sports history, May 25, 1997

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Rangers 4-2 to win the 1997 Eastern Conference Final and advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 10 years.

Rod Brind’Amour scored the go-ahead goal with just 54 seconds left in the first period before adding another in the third period to seal the win.

It was one of four multi-goal playoff games Brind’Amour had with the Flyers, all of which came during the Flyers’ 1997 playoff run

Cliff Lee tossed a three-hit shutout as the Phillies defeated the Marlins, 3-0, recording the 12th and final shutout of his MLB career.

Delmon Young homered in support, marking the final time in his career that he hit home runs in consecutive games

On this day in Philly sports history, May 21, 1995

John LeClair recorded the lone playoff hat trick of his career as the Flyers rallied from a 2-0 deficit in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals to defeat the Rangers, 5-4, in overtime.

LeClair scored three goals as Philadelphia stunned the defending Stanley Cup champion Rangers in front of the home crowd in Philly.

He remains one of just 17 players in Flyers franchise history to record a playoff hat trick

On this day in Philly sports history, May 14, 1987

The infamous pregame brawl between the Flyers and Canadiens erupted before Game 6 of the Wales Conference Finals in Montreal.

After the Canadiens crossed center ice during warmups and fired pucks into the Flyers’ net, Ed “Boxcar” Hospodar and Chico Resch confronted Claude Lemieux and Shayne Corson, sparking a chaotic bench-clearing fight before the game even began.

The Flyers would go on to win the game and the series 4-2 to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

The brawl became one of the most legendary moments in Flyers history and led to major NHL rule changes that effectively ended bench-clearing fights in hockey
