The South Asian Geopolitical Theatre is in Full Swing!

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's visit to India, at the invitation of Doval, is a sign of the weakened new government agreeing to be a US sidekick. The US successfully showed its might—the coordinated news and social media coverage competed with the BJP’s media control and influenced the election outcome. Senator Jeff Merkley's push for a “strong diplomatic response” from Antony Blinken to India, the alleged US citizen’s murder plotter Nikhil Gupta’s extradition from the Czech Republic to the US, Canada’s report on foreign influence, and Australia’s report on Indian spies being expelled—all timed perfectly like clockwork. In one stroke, Jaishankar’s bravado of Vishwaguru (teacher of the world) was toned down to Vishwamitra (friend of the world). Allegedly, Samant Goel overplayed his hand by going after a US citizen, and history shows that the US never forgives foreign interference within its borders—unless deep concessions are made to the Americans!

And these concessions are not going to come cheap. Gone are the days when India could buy Russian oil and sell it to Europe. The US does not like India’s neutrality, which gave it advantages on both sides—technology IP from the West, trade with China, and energy from Russia and Iran. The US does not want a trading partner; it wants a local ally to fight its war with the Chinese Dragon—if it comes to that, or at least to contain China’s trading footprint for now, just like it wants the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan. The landing of Nancy Pelosi to meet the Dalai Lama and stoke the Tibet issue with China from Indian soil, and Jaishankar promptly heading to Sri Lanka, deep in Chinese debt, are signs that no time was wasted in the negotiations. The Americans have asked for and obtained their piece of the flesh. They are in South Asia to protect their $65 billion investment over the last four years, and they are here to stay.

Energy is India’s Achilles' heel. It drives the foreign policy of any government in power. With 1.7 billion mouths to feed and 65% of young, ambitious, English-speaking Indians, providing for India’s growing energy needs is no small feat. Recent governments are incentivizing the harvesting alternate energy sources e.g. new micro-dams and solar energy harvesting, but the need far exceeds the supply. Without cheap oil from Russia and Iran, India’s growth story will come at an energy markup. Here, too, the Americans will be pivotal in making available Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s sweet oil for India.

China, at least for now, does not have war ambitions with India as a priority over trade expansion, but water is going to be a problem for both countries over the next half-century. The Tibetan Plateau feeds the Yangtze, Yellow River, Indus River, Mekong, and Ganges—thus Tibet.

From my vantage point, Sikhs will be used as important negotiating pawns by the west in South Asia, and Americans and India’s global elite will emerge as winners in the short term. Meanwhile, the larger Indian population is embroiled in internal conflicts, distracted by a mix of superiority complexes, increasingly divided states, anti-minority rhetoric, and widespread entertainment. 24/7 shouting news channels, reality shows, and cricket serve as distractions from the new reality of a weaker government, now more aligned with American ambitions.

So where is India heading next? It would not be surprising if India has been offered a security deal similar to the Saudi-US agreement of 1974: support and arms security to rule a polarized country and repel external threats. In return, India may be tied to the hip with the US and ready to do its bidding in South Asia. When the time comes, Americans will demand Indian blood for their bidding against China.

But the real losers in all of this are the original RSS nationalists or ground workers, some of whom, like Swadeshi Jagran Manch, had genuine self-sustenance goals. Instead, they are slowly loosing indigenous control over to globalist businesses, and getting a country more divided than ever, with economic disparity like never seen in its independent history, and much of its citizens high on nationalism sans the cultural genteel that native Indian traditions offered—complete opposite of the original portrayed goal of the Hindu nationalist movement that started a century ago.
