Trust in God, combined with action.

Highlighting how the Holy Prophet (sa) combined complete trust in Allah with every possible human effort, Beloved Huzoor (aba) quoted Hazrat Musleh Maud (ra):

“Thus, on the one hand, he possessed absolute certainty that God exists and helps His servants; on the other, he never put God to the test. He did not say, ‘Since God has promised me victory, I shall sit idly. What need is there for me to make any effort? Allah will grant victory in fulfilment of His promise.’ That was not his way. Rather, he took every practical step towards victory. He trained people in military skills, organised armies to combat the enemy, arranged mounts and transport, acquired weapons, and provided food and accommodation for the soldiers. Only after making all such preparations would he set out to confront the enemy. And when the Muslims were few and the opposing force was large, he would still say with complete certainty, confidence and faith, ‘though we are few, victory will be ours.’

So far as human effort could go, the Holy Prophet (sa) employed every possible means; beyond that, he placed his trust in Allah. His faith was therefore not the faith of ignorance or indolence. It was a faith born of certainty and experience. Such faith belongs to the person who combines trust in God with action – who holds effort and reliance upon Allah together at the same time.”

A father and son were gunned down by unidentified assailants last night. The father was shot 4 times in the jaw and neck, while his son was shot in the arm.

Turning to Allah in times of distress.

Highlighting the Holy Prophet’s (sa) complete reliance and trust in Allah the Almighty during times of distress, Beloved Huzoor (aba) narrated:

“Hazrat Ibn Abbas (ra) relates that whenever the Holy Prophet (sa) felt distressed, he would say:

‘There is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth and the Lord of the Honourable Throne.’

In other words, he placed his complete reliance and trust in Allah the Almighty alone.”

A Revolution Begins With Ourselves

Beloved Huzoor (aba) explained that a true revolution in the world can only come through first reforming ourselves:

“Thus, we need to elevate our standards of forgiveness. And when this happens, only then will that beautiful society be established which the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community wishes to establish; and that society will be established for which the Promised Messiah (as) came; and that society will be established upon which he took the pledge of 'Bai'at' with us—that we must establish this society.

If this is not so, then our claims are false claims: that we are to bring about a revolution in the world. A revolution can only be brought about when we reform our own states, when we endeavour to better ourselves doctrinally, spiritually, and practically, and establish that pure society which eradicates disorders from the world, which fosters love and affection in the world, which establishes the sovereignty of the Holy Prophet (sa) in the world, and which establishes the Oneness of Allah the Exalted in the world.

May Allah enable us to act upon this, and in reality, may we be those who fulfil the right of his 'Bai'at'. At any rate, these few conditions I have mentioned before you—all of them could not be mentioned—but if we act even upon these alone, we can bring about a pure revolution in our lives, in our future generations, and in the world; and we can also fulfil the purpose of attending the Jalsa and spending three days in this atmosphere. May Allah grant us the ability to do so. 'Amin'.”

What does it truly mean to trust in Allah?

Explaining the true meaning of Tawakkul and the balance between taking action and placing one's trust in Allah, Beloved Huzoor (aba) quoted the Promised Messiah (as):

“The Promised Messiah (as) has explained this incident in the following manner:

‘A person should not abandon righteousness and should place his trust in God; then he cannot suffer any kind of loss. Reliance upon God does not mean that a person should abandon planning and precaution. Rather, it means that after making all the necessary arrangements, one should leave the outcome to God – and this is what is called Tawakkul [trust in Allah]. If he makes no arrangements and merely claims to place his trust in Allah, then his trust is hollow and empty. And if a person relies solely upon his own planning (and thinks, “I have made all the necessary arrangements; now that is sufficient”) and there is no need to rely upon Allah, then that planning too is hollow and will come to nothing.’”

The Vital Obligation of Prayer

Beloved Huzoor (aba) emphasised the obligation of Prayer and the responsibility to establish it within our homes:

“Then, Prayer is an exceptionally vital obligation. Allah the Exalted states in the Holy Quran:

'Wa'mur ahlaka bis-Salati wastabir 'alaiha'

That is, And enjoin Prayer on thy people, and be constant therein.

Now, what is the situation here? We observe—and sometimes women write to me—that our men are not regular in their Prayers, whereas the women are observing them. Allah the Exalted has placed this obligation upon men: that you must observe Prayer regularly yourselves, and also urge your wives and children to be regular in their Prayers. And through this alone will a pure and righteous society be established.”
