During the Kaduna massacre, a Hausa Muslim man who didn’t know my family took us in and hid us in his house.
When the people hunting Christians came to his house and asked if there were any Christians inside, he told them no. He even swore by Allah, saying “Wallahi,” just to protect us.
He risked his own life to keep people he had never met safe.
I was only a little girl then, but I remember everything.
The following morning, before daybreak, he led us out of his house to where the soldiers were. He gave my father some money.
From there, we left Kaduna with nothing.
Years later, when I was older, my brother and I returned to Kaduna to look for him. Unfortunately, we learnt that he had passed away💔
We did what we could to show his family how much we appreciated what he had done for us.
Ilhan Omar came to the United States in March of 1995, when she was 12 years old. She became a citizen 5 years later, while she was still a minor.
Ilhan is now 44 years old and the Trump administration wants to deport her for political opposition to the president and Israel.
This morning, the federal government turned the full force of the Department of Homeland Security against a sitting member of Congress for the offense of disagreeing with the White House.
The path to citizenship should not be weaponized against anyone, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, a naturalized American who swore an oath to this country — the same one that I took.
The promise of citizenship should not be contingent on someone agreeing with the federal government.
When Muslim women cover themselves from head to toe, whether out of modesty or simply to keep warm, it’s labelled oppression & regression. When white/Western women do the same, it’s fashion or personal choice.
Apparently, the clothes aren’t the problem, it’s who’s wearing them.
It was an honor to attend Friday prayers at Beit El Maqdis Islamic Center with Palestinian New Yorkers today.
Like an olive tree, their roots run deep in our city, stretching back more than a century and growing through every generation that has made Bay Ridge home.
This is when Mayor Zohran Mamdani walked 6 miles from City Hall to celebrate his first 100 days & he’s treated like a Celebrity because he’s so loved, trusted & respected by so many. Now he’s even more popular than before with people all over the World asking him for help.
The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect. Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.
This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
🚨My takes from today’s game.
Myles Lewis-Skelly is untouchable.
Martin Ødegaard is back to his best.
Christos Tzolis will be pivotal this season.
Kai Havertz has earned his starting berth for the Coventry game.
@AFC__Xtra You can't include community shield, as it only counts for guardiola and kllop, otherwise it's a preseason trophy like Chelsea's club world cup
