The Shakespeare and Music Study Group mourns the passing of the great composer, theatre director & playwright Claire Van Kampen.

She was an advisor and a great supporter, gave a fantastic keynote at our inaugural conference, and appeared on our podcast.
We shall miss her dearly.

Britten shows the clown's ineptitude though music: the orchestra "trips in", adding another layer of humour to the inherently funny "play within a play". Britten created an "opera within the opera" with "the same affectionately mocking approach" as Shakespeare. 👏
